Sometimes it is funny how nature takes its vegenance on mankind. Thank God that this accident had a happy ending. A Ryanair flight made an emergency landing at Rome's Ciampino airport yesterday after hitting a flock of birds, some of which entered the engines, the airline said. Passengers were evacuated via escape chutes from the plane which a Reuters photographer later saw at the end of the runway with one of its engines resting on the tarmac. Its nose cone and wings appeared to be streaked with blood. All 166 passengers and six crew on the flight to Rome from Frankfurt were reported safe.

Hi Ronaldinu, I am so pelased that this incident casued no injury to anybody except the poor birds of course. When I went to Dawlish Air Show this year there were only 8 instead of 9 Red Arrows flying due to the ninth being hit by birds coming out of Exeter airpirt on their way to us so as a precautionary measure number 9 turned back and didn't participate in any areobatic display. Better to err on the side of caution. Huggles. Ellie :D

I am glad it turned out okay for the people who could have been killed, poor birds though. We invade their space, too bad they had too die that way.

Wow, that was most unfortunate thing to happen. They are lucky that they landed safely. Too bad they were unable to miss the birds.

Funny? I'm not amused...and as for a happy ending...I'm sure those poor birds were not too happy. I have a horrible picture in my mind.

I always find it strange when birds wreck into aircraft, as they avoid other objects. I know the engines sometimes suck them in but I would think they would give aircraft a wide berth! I'm very happy that all the people were safe.

Hi ronaldinu, Yes, I did hear of that and I am glad the passengers are safe but I really feel sorrry for the poor birds, can you imagine if you were a bird? while flying freeley that they suppose to be and all of a sudden this great big thing goes whack into you from no where, scarey for the birds. Thats mankind again, they are danger even in the air. Tamara

LOL =D Birrds and planes never belong together.. It's either one of them for both are gonna cuase hurt and more damage to each other if they are near each other.. As this incident had proved.. lol Luckily, the birds din get sucked by the suction, if not, the whole plane is bound to crash for sure.. hehe ^_^ And it's good to know that all passengers are good and fine ^_^
