What causese some people to want to control everything?

Have you ever known anyone who needs to have control over everything..
I have seen some that control their wives to what they wear and whom they speak to .
Some who control their children ..wanting to select their spouses and name their children ...send them to church and even tell them who to vote for.
What causes this to occure in some people...the need to be in control all the time?

Could be that they don't really have control in their own lives. So to feel in control somewhere they attempt it with others. Since most people don't care for being controlled it doesn't work. But it may give the individual a sense of being in control. When it comes to children it may just be a fear of letting go.

THanks for pointing this out..it's good to know why people act certain ways.. Why people feel the need to do certain things.
