performance of laptop.. how can I measure, plz?

Hello..... friends. I wanna buy a laptop. Can you anybody help me , how can I buy a better laptop? Some are heavy hard disk , some are of huge ram, somes are core 2 duo, some are dual core, some are Fbus. What should I give preference for better performance and quickness of my laptop...? should I prefer webcam or my performance or look of the laptop. Which brand is better endured and performance? Compaq or HP or fujitsu or dell or asus or IBM. please help and give me idea please.
