Are video games same for kids anymore?I don't think so.There are millions of people who still play world of warcraft rather than going outside to swim in the beach or play basketball in a park. The new expansion for world of warcraft is not helping either.Back in the 1990's, there used to have as many as 7/10 people playing in the park while the rest 3/10 stayed home and played video games. Now as of 2008-2009,the odds stand 9/10 people playing video games and 1/10 that prefers outdoor activities. What do you guys think about it?

Of course, most kids would much rather play video games than go outside and of course do their homework. This just might be why kids are starting to get smarter in this day and age. Believe it or not, video games build your intellegence, it is a proven fact. When a child or anyone else for that matter plays a video game, they are giving their game a pretty healthy workout that is good for them and at the same time, they are exercising their fingers. Children are navigating their way around a virtual world that is mysterious and I personally see nothing wrong with this. In video games, kids will have to figure out the rules of the game and the goals they need to achieve in order to learn. For hours, kids can work at puzzles that are found nested within the game.Yep, today's culture is definatly making us smarter. "Telescoping" it is called. Gamers have to deal with their immediete problems while at the same time, they keep their long-term goals in their mind."Probing" it is called. Probing is referring to the strategic thinking and complex problem solving of video games. Playing video games is parallel to working on a science project. Gamers are just like students who are working in a science laboratory, they must come up with that hypothesis. For example, they have to find that quest in World of Warcraft. With this, they are engaging in action by hunting for that quest and then completing it. The gamers will be discovering if their hypothesis is true or false. if they are not able to complete this quest, then they will be revising their hypothesis. Playing video games is a fundamental to learning. The brain is able to change with practice, so yes, practice does make perfect. When you train yourself to do a certain task, part of the brain that is involved in performing that task is going to grow in size and also activity. There have recently been scientific studies, that people who use their brain more (in this case, playing video games) have a 46 percent decrease of developing dementia. When it comes to playing video games, it is a lot like learning a new kind of visual language. Unlike reading a book, when an indivdiual plays a video game, they are engaging in active exploration. Video gamers force their brains to make those decisions. Sure, reading can activate that imagination, but video games will teach an indivdiual how to think by forcing you to weigh the evidence in, consult your long term goals, analyze the situation and make a decision. There is nothing wrong with playing video games. The new expansion of World of Warcraft isn't helping? WoW has is contributing to the intellegence of people. Do you have any cold case evidence stating that there is anything wrong with playing video games instead of going outside? Look at the statistics, do your research. Sure, we could go back to those old days, take video games and all that away and just stop using our brains. Instead, we will run away and play in the park....

It's whatever you want it to be, if you're mature enough, then it can also exercise the mind. I'm not about to get into a little argument here over someone who doesn't do their research and wants to down video games. Have a great life playing in the park.

i totally disagree with it being a social destroyer. For one keeps kids out of trouble. And games are only addicting if you let it. Ive been playing world of warcraft online for 2 years and i still go outside and spend tons of time with the family. Its all base on how you spend your time. me and my wife love playing WOW and so does the kids. Thats one of our family times we have along with the outside pinics and playing sports outside. When i was younger video games helped me through many hard times and i was still was popluar in school. i never got in trouble when i played video games. so i totally disagree with it being a social destroyer. its people that are out there that dont manage there time and there kids time outside. Which leads to you can blame the game. blame the parents.

I have always been a big fan of video games and when I was little it was one of my favorite hobbies, and it was always a good way to pass the time when I was really bored or had nothing else to do,and when it was too cold to go outside or it was raining I would shut myself in my room with a video game and play for hours on end, and I still love to play video games, and my fiance also likes to play video games, and we do not play video games a lot but whenever we need to take a break or when we are stressed we will play video games, because they are a good way to relieve frustrations and relax, and I think that video games are a good source of entertainment because they are a lot of fun, especially since you can find video games centered around a whole lot of different things, and I know that some people spend too much time playing video games and not enough time doing other things such as going outside, and I think that is where parents need to make sure their kids understand that video games are good in moderation, and they should only let them play video games for so many hours a day,or so many hours a week,so that way they will balance video game time, and outdoors and doing things that do not involve video games time, and I do not think that video games destroy social life, because with systems like X-box you can play with people around the world which is like being social, and there are games that have co-op on them which allows you to play with a friend or family member, and me and my friend who I call my brother have always both been into video games, and we love getting together and playing co-op on games like Halo,Splinter Cell Double Agent, and Halo 3 because it is a lot of fun,and video games have helped me and my friend be social, and me and my fiance have two friends that live like five minutes away, and one of them has came down and played Halo 3 with me,which helped us be social, and besides there are video games that can teach you things, and that are good for learning,so I do not think anyone needs to talk badly about video games, especially if they do not play them, and that is my honest opinion.

I agree with you. Actually it depends on the gamer themselves on how they treat their hobby. Video games can help to release the tension and for recreational purpose but if someone becomes too addicted then the objective and purposes have been changed. Once they're too concentrated on their game, they will ignore their social responsibility. They'll only stay inside the home without knowing what happened outside. For me, playing video games is good but must know when to divide the time between the gaming world and the real world.

I disagree. Most people that I know that play video games all day wouldn't be outside even if they didn't have the video games. And it's not destroying their social life, because they do interact with people that share the same interests as them. I'm not really into video games or computer games but I don't think they are destroying the people that are.

I agree with a social life destroyer. Too many youths have been just stuck in a net cafe or at home just playing games rather than going out, having fun with the world, exploring new heights. Even though I'm a gamer myself, I on the other hand balance things. It's a bad thing just staying put.. doesn't help the body.
