I am asking personel question about how much money you plan to spend on Christmas this year because, of the bad economy. I was talking to some of my friends and it seems like everybody is going to cut back a least 25% from last year. Therefore, how much are you going to cut back from last years Christmas Shopping.

Absolutely $0. I need to save up my money for a plane ticket to see my girlfriend!

Does that mean you're not buying your girlfriend a present either? Although, I'm sure given a choice she'd rather have you there rather than a big present and just a phone call instead of seeing you in person. At least take a sprig of Mistletoe with you!

I am planning on spending quite a bit less than usual, not sure of exact ammounts though. We were on a tight budget last year and are in the same boat this year. This year I have been lucky to find quite a few sales and also a liquidation store near me that often has great deals. My kids havn't really asked for anything major this year so I lucked out that way too.

I'll probably spend around the same as I have the last few years. I started very early, though, so won't have to spend it all at the same time. I'm in about the same shape as I was financially last year, so it isn't going to bother me that much, so far at least.

Our budget this year is between $800 and 1,000.00. It has increased from last year since last year our daughter wasn't born yet. On top of that we are also celebrating our daughters first birthday on christmas. It's really exciting for us. What has helped us out is kmart is having layaway unlike other department stores, which has abled us to provide a great christmas and birthday for our daughter. I never shopped at kmart until this year. My fiance and I are getting each other a few things here and their, but as long as our daughter and the neices and nephews get things we are happy. It is all about the children, and me and him are just happy to have one another.

My family decided to buy fewer presents by alternating families instead of buying for everyone. We started rotating families, so this year I am buying for my brother and his family and not the other two siblings and their kids. It makes 9 less people. If I managed to keep it to $10 a person, I'm saving about $100. It was was almost impossible to keep it at $10 per person, because there would always be a few that I just couldn't find anything for and would have to splurge. Most of all, I'm glad to have less stress. That's 9 less decisions. I'm also not planning on sending very many cards. In the past we had over 80 people on our our Christmas card list. This year, I'm going to stick to close relatives.

We were on a reduced budget last year, so we will probably spend the same amount this year as we did last year. There are a few more people to buy for this year though, so it might be tricky.

We've always tried to maintain a low budget for gifts, as we make an effort to de-emphasize the 'consumer' side of the season within our circles. I don't know how much we spent last year - it wasn't a lot - but we're not 'consciously' cutting back. Gave lots of preserves and baked goods last year - because I'm 8 months pregnant and finding I have a hard time spending as much time on my feet as is required for that, I'm depending more on needlework this year - handmade Christmas ornaments (embroidered, knitted, temari, probably beaded, whatever catches my fancy :) ), knitted and sewn goods, etc. Many supplies already on hand; I've probably spent $50.00 over the late summer and fall specifically for Christmas supplies, and may spend another $50.00 on ingredients for homemade caramel and the like. That's for...well, 13 people off the top of my head, and I'm sure I'm missing some! Perhaps another $50.00 for stocking stuffers (DH and DSS) and DSS Christmas gifts - we do three gifts for DSS, and one (in progress) will be handmade. DH is getting at least two gifts, handmade, from me. So...as I say, don't know whether we're cutting back, but there's our rough Christmas budget! ~Sara

Yes, I will definitely be cutting back this year. In fact many people will be getting plants from me. I have soome very prolific spider plants and I will be making cuttings from them, rooting them, and then giving people little baby potted spider plants for the holidays. I figure it's a gift that keeps on giving becuase they can then do the same after the plants grow. Spider plants are also pretty easy to keep alive and are really tolorant.

I'm guessing I'll probably spend around 2-3 hundred and I have to be creative on how I make it that money last because I have a lot of gifts to buy. It's very possible I might be spending more( I hope not..lol), not sure at the moment. But I know it won't be as much as it was last year . I believe I spent around $500 last year. I usually save money on gifts when I shop at stores like "Dollar Tree" and other dollar stores and I like to shop at "Big Lots" during the holidays. And I also like finding bargains on Amazon.com and ebay. I buy most of my stocking suffers and gift wrapping supplies at Dollar Tree and by doing that I usually save a lot of money on Christmas shopping.

I don't really have a set amount I am going to spend on Christmas presents I know it won't be as much as I have spent before but I have to give my kids a Christmas. It will depend alot on how much of a bonus my husband gets from work we usually use that for Christmas shopping.

I started saving for christmas back in January, I tend to save then right through til christmas just putting as much money as I can afford away. I save up change in a tin too throughout the year and this goes towards it, so my christmas budget was whatever I had managed to save, now last year was a bad year for us so what I have this year is a lot more. Saying that though I have still not spent my whole budget I have looked for cheaper alternatives and so have still saved money!

I don't think i'll be spending hardly anything on christmas gifts this year. My husband and I are expecting our first baby at the beginning of December, so I seriously doubt that I'll actually want to buy anyone any gifts. I'll probably buy my husband and baby something, but I think that'll be it this year. I have a list of items that I want for Christmas though lol. I went ahead abd bought myself one item from the list. I've been wanting a Women's Devotional bible for a few years now, I finally ordered one, I can't wait to start reading.

I just posted a blog about this topic this week over at my blog, www.happy-sahm.blogspot.com. I plan on making homemade baked goods gift baskets (or boxes) for almost everyone on my list. I'm breaking them up into families, so 20 baskets. And the only money I plan on spending as far as gifts themselves go is on JD, my 2 1/2 year old son. He still has baby toys from last Christmas and his birthday so I'd like to get him some new educational toys and some clothes. Come read my blog to see all that I plan on baking and my full plan for Christmas! Great Question ....

We have never spent a huge amount on Christmas presents and we give many handmade/homemade gifts. We have also never given many gifts outside of immediate family. We will, however, be cutting back probably 10 to 20% from last year. As most of our family is several hundred miles away, we also have to take into account our expenses in traveling and some lodging during our holiday trip.
