So i'm writing this story and I wanna get it published when im done with it. I dont have to pay for a editor to check it over and fix my mistakes, because i'm going to have my friend edit and fix my mistakes for me. I know alot of you are going to tell me to go the e-book way, but I hate e-books so if your gonna suggest that then dont bother writing back. I also dont have money to publish it myself. So if anyone can point me in the right direction it would mean alot to me. Thank you for reading and writing back -Brandon

Hi Blink. There's a book called "Writer's Market" that you should probably find in the library. It's published every year and has all the information you need about magazines, book publishers, even literary agents. Just don't be surprised or hurt by rejection letters. Even some of our famous best selling authors had to resort to self-publishing the first time around. (And years ago there weren't so many...and they were called vanity press.)

And don't forget...when you do read about where to send your work of heart, pay close attention to how the publishers and editors want the material sent. Some allow electronic transmissions, some do not. Some want query letters and that's all. Some want to see a few chapters. They all have requirements about how they went the material presented and if you don't follow the guidelines, your writings won't even be read.

I'm on the same position as you. I finished my novel 2 months ago. I've send it to a well-known publisher in my city. Guess what... they still haven't read it! Man it sucks. I just hate it. But, I think I have to be more patient to wait for them to process it. I don't think you need to pay an editor to edit your story though. The publisher will provide it for free. Or, maybe it's different in your country? Anyway, I think you should pic the right publisher, the best one for you. Don't do the same mistake like I do. I was so afraid of small publisher, so I choose the big, well-known one. And I don't think my novel will be published soon... hiks... that's just sad. Because there's this rule in publisher company that one I've send to a publisher, then it would exclusive, means I not allowed to try sending it to other publisher. Arrrgghh... So... be carefull choosing your publisher Brandon.

i self-published my first novel on lulu.com, doing the whole novel myself from designing the covers, writing, editing, published, marketing, designing promotional materials, etc. it gave me freedom to do everything my way without anyone messing with my work. it was a lot of work and a lot of headache but made me feel very accomplished.

Since you don't have any money, you might try going to your public library to see if they have the Publisher's Guide (I think that's the name of it). This guide will tell you the names and addresses of various publishers and what they publish. It will also tell you whether or not they accept manuscripts from individuals rather than from agents.

i have a suggestion. just like one friend who responded to this discussion said not to worry about being rejected many times, be positive in your outlook. Relax. The way will appear, just for you. Apart from it, why dont you try doing some public speaking where you can do some indirect promotion of your book. if nobody is ready to publish be ready to publish yourself. may be you can print it and give it as orders come in. Save your work in a pdf file. be shameless when you promote yourself. the world understand only such things and you will be surprised that they appreciate it.
