Have you ever taken a short cut that ended much longer?

What happened?
I always find myself having these great ideas of accomplishing something quicker. If I do this, then I would save this much time and won't have to do that. They almost always backfire though. I find out the "short" way is more complicated and more intricate and more confusing than the normal route. I find out that I still have to do the regular process all over again.
So have you ever taken a short...

Oh, yes, I have. Of course, it usually turns out well nonetheless. At least, I want to believe that it does.

I say good for you, wilsongoddard. I guess there is no point in stressing or freaking out. I think I mentioned it in an earlier response but when Boyfriend and I get lost (mostly because of me), we say we're taking the scenic route. Thanks!

Oh that happens to me all the time when I am working on my online stuffs hehe
. I have been hoping to find the best time for each work including my other responsibilities. Trying to test which way would I finish faster, but still every option I try takes longer than my usual. So after several trials, I'd go back how I do things the old way.
Maybe its because we aren't still used or familiar with how we should do things the new way. And while doing it at the same time we're trying to learn it. That's just how I see it.
Ciao!

Oh, I learn from these shortcut mistakes, iskayz. I learn that I will not do them again. Heheh.
I guess it's also because we try to hurry the whole thing up and in the process don't really get to concentrate and focus on the whole thing. Thanks, iskayz and good luck on all that online stuff.

You mean you couldn't figure out why you couldn't remember step 4 or if you should have done it before 5?
Yes, not only do I find myself starting all over again but that I made things worse.
Thanks, alokn.

I try this often when I am driving, and taking 'actual' short cuts. However for some reason, yes, they end up making my destination longer than I would hope for.
My normal commute time from work to my house is 1 hour, 15 minutes in rush-hour traffic. (I leave at 5:00 p.m. on the dot.)
I have to normally take three major freeways.
On Fridays, I say to hell with it, and take side streets, through downtown.
However I timed it several times and turns out it still takes me 1 hour, 15 minutes, if not longer.
Freeways can be crawling slow but at least you will keep moving.

I like how you leave right when it's 5pm. Not 5:01 or 5:02 but 5pm.
When I have an appointment and a traffic jam is making me worry that I may be late, I always think that I should have taken the other route (freeway or back road). It's like whatever road I take, the other one is always faster. Thanks, dxfanatic.

You mean the time we had to be to the airport at a certain time and got behind one of those campers on a a two lane road with no visibility and no-passing all the way and the guy kept slowing down to 15 mph but crowded the center and wouldn't EVER pull over. Yeah, we did that, and it was a lot longer but the road was straight and fast and we got there. Another time, though, we tried to take the scenic route back to the SF Bay Area from Sacramento and somebody had switched all the road signs, so at a fork in the road where it was 2 miles to the bridge if we went one way and 22 miles the other we went the other way. Never again!

Who is this cruel joker who switched the road signs? You know I'm biased when it comes to the Bay Area but I sure hope the route was really scenic. LOL. Boyfriend and I would always joke that we are taking the scenic route whenever we get lost.
And yes, the car ahead of us is always slower than usual when we're running a little late. But I just have to put it out there that I'm not one of those weaving jerks. I don't put myself in danger or others in danger so I can save 10 seconds.
Whenever we go up to Bolinas and I'm driving, I always do the pullover for the other cars to pass me. I like to drive since I get really carsick when I'm the passenger especially on a winding route. And I tend to be slower since I'm scared the car might go off the cliff!

ohh yes... once a friend insisted that we take a short cut through some trees to get back to the site we all were having a picnic (we went walking down a path after some time decided to turn back) i was a bit iffy about it but said why not will save us some time... we ended up going the wrong way and lost for about 2 hours lol... we found the path and walked towards an opening in the trees luckily we saw our group far ahead but not too far away. To say the least i was terrified and wanted to kill her.

When trees are involved, I tend to follow trails. I think the first hour of being lost would have been fun and I would have been more optimistic but the second hour, I would have been freaking out and like you would be staring daggers at whoever came up with the perfect idea of taking this shortcut. I'm glad you found your way back, nadooa.
