Do you search for topics similar to your post before you hit submit?

Hi everyone!
Before I start a discussion I try to search first on mylot. I am cautious on starting a discussion cause there might be similar topics that has been posted before. I search it by typing the tags that could possibly been submitted by other users. I have been doing it and for the past months and I find it very useful.
There was one time though that I searched for the discussion and there were no results found so I went on and submitted my post. Later I found out that there was a discussion posted with almost the same thoughts. It was unintentional, I never copied the post but there was nothing that I could do anymore.
Later that day I checked on the similar discussion and found out that no tags has been submitted. So that answers why it wasn't included in the mylot search engine. So I suggest everyone should submit tags on every discussion you start. It would help other users who uses the search feature of mylot. And also to avoid similar discussions.
Any thoughts on this?
I hope my search on this topic is right.

Hello iskayz.
I do. Although lately I don't really see the point. I think there is only a few of us that do that anyway. But I still do though I'm slacking off now and then.
When I do the search, I do the tag option as well as the full text.

Yeah I do the same in searching. I use the tag and the full text as well. If I find a similar topic, I try to read it and see if its the same as what I have in mind. If still different and only the tags are the same, then I would still post my discussion.
Take care!

I never search before I post my discussion. The chances are high that there are topics similar in nature but worded differently and I think that doesn't matter much. I have not come across that are similar. With so many discussions going around everyday and so many members I think it should be okay to have identical topics to post as long as it is not copied word by word from an existing discussion.

Yes, that happened to me also. I could not find a similar one when I searched for it, and when I had finished and posted it up there was a few similar to mine. Now I know why. Thanks for mentioning the tags. I think mylot should make everyone tag there dicussions. This would stop the repeated discussions happening. Thank you for bringing this matter to light.

Yes, many have been neglecting the use of tagging.
I have seen many started topics and responses being submitted without tags. If our discussions and responses are not tags, its like its not included in the mylot archive cause no matter how search it, no results would appear.
Anyways, happy mylotting!
