I have been wearing glasses for 11 years and contact lenses for 7 years. I want to have LASIK surgery to correct my short sightness so that i can stop wearing glasses/contact lenses. I'm all for it but at the same time a bit reluctant. Anybody out there who has already done such surgery? If yes where did you had it? Because if i'm to do the surgery i will have to go overseas cause it is not performed in my country.

I too have been wearing contacts and glasses for a long time. And I would love to have this Lasik Surgery done. And I know that they do do it in the US now. But I've heard that they actually perform the surgery when your a wake. That's what has stopped me. I don't think I really want to see a knife coming to my eyes. Or are they doing it by Lasers now?

I used to wear glasses from one years. One of friend was done this Lasik surgery. After the operation she should be allright about her sight. If you want to make this surgery you must follow some condition before and after the surgery. It should be available in my country. Before the Surgery you will be told to stop wearing contact lenses for at least ten days prior to the procedure. If you wear hard lenses, you may need to stop wearing them six weeks or more before your Lasik Surgery. In most cases, the doctor will prescribe an antibiotic for you to begin taking before surgery. This helps reduce the risk of infection. The doctor will examine your eye and a topographic map will be created of the cornea. This map shows the contour, irregularities of shape and any astigmatism in the eye. The doctor uses the information from this mapping to determine how much tissue will be removed during Lasik surgery and where it will be taken from. During the Surgery you will be awake during your surgery. Most doctors give their patients a sedative, such as valium. This will help you stay relaxed during the procedure. Anesthetic drops are used in the eye for pain relief. A suction ring is applied to the eye to hold it in place and keep the eyelid open. The surgeon uses an instrument called a microkeratome to cut a small flap in the cornea. This flap is folded back to reveal the middle section of the cornea. The middle area of the cornea is the area that is restructured during the Lasik surgery. An excimer laser is used to accomplish this task. The laser vaporizes the tissue, changing the shape of the eye. During the procedure, you will only see orange and white light from the laser. When the tissue has been removed, the doctor will close the flap in the outer cornea. After the Surgery you should bring someone with you to drive you home after Lasik surgery. You will be given dark goggles to protect your eyes from the light. Eye shields will be used at night to prevent rubbing the eyes in your sleep. To prevent infection and help healing antibiotic and anti inflammatory drops will be prescribed. Your doctor will instruct you one when and how to use these drops. I too want to take this surgery as early as possible. Happy to share. Happy myLotting.

I have done Lasik Surgery, but there are new more updated techniques that were not available when i had it done a few years ago... I had it done in Chicago at the Lasik Institute. It is best to get such procedures done at a place that specializes in such a task. Since their main focus will be on laser treatments and not a million other things. They will put you through MANY eye exams to determine what risks you might have. Ask about the different kinds available. Ask what the pros and cons of each are. Ask about what the recovery time is (i spent 2 weeks in dark sunglasses outside and in, and an additional month or so outside... i still wear sunglasses but regular ones not dark ones that were given just for precaution) There is no such thing as an unimportant question or detail. The procedure is done with you wide awake and they numb the eye area so you feel nothing except some pressure. They encourage you to talk to them about any discomfort no matter how mild. It is good to get out there and learn as much as possible before going to your first appointment =) Wish you the best on the surgery =)

I had Lasik surgery about 5 years ago and it was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Before the surgery I had been wearing glasses/contacts for 15 years. You definitly want to go to a place that really checks on your eyes to make sure you are a good candidate before they perform the procedure. My eyes also had to be stable, meaning that my precription hadn't changed in the last couple of years. It was absolutely amazing when I could read the clock across the room immediately following the procedure. The healing process is very fast too. I had mine done in the US.
