Tonight is my last night with long hair - for a while

I've finally gotten in touch with the girl that cuts my hair and made my appointment for tomorrow. I'll be getting about 12 inches of hair cut off to donate to Locks of Love for children with cancer treatments. I've done this once before with my sister and neice, but I'm the only one that's let it grow out long enough again. It's been over 18 months since I got my hair cut at all and it's still pretty healthy looking. I'm a little nervous, but also a bit excited! I'll post another picture tomorrow with the "after" view!

In the past, I have had a long hair. But now I cut it. I cut it because I think I should renew myself. Because from a child, I used to keep my hair and my father like this. Now, when I cut my hair, my father always complain with me. I'm too tired to complain with him. I'm not to bother about that.

Sometimes it's a chore to have long hair, but I'll be glad when mine grows out again.

Thank you! This is just something that's so simple for me to do. Sometimes it's hard to part with the cash - the hair actually grows back faster than the cash does it seems!

I actually got it cut last night, and just posted the new pic a bit ago. The people that cut the hair for Locks of Love agree to do the new hairstyle for free (no shampoo or blow dry just the cut). The last time I did it was in the summer so I didn't get a dry, this time I did though, but my hairstylist hardly ever charges me anyways - I do her taxes for her :)

The cost of the haircut should count as a donation on your taxes as you can't donate the hair without the cost of the cut!!! What time you going & when will the pic be posted???

Oh that is nice of you. I am still growing mine out right now. I've donated hair twice already and I want to donate again. Most of it goes to children with permanent hairloss, usually alopecia I think it's called. One time I donated 24 inches of hair and before that I think it was 17. This time right now I could donate 12 inches, and I think I might just end up doing that because long hair isn't working out so well for me. I'm not liking it and I think this might be the last time I can do this because I am just too old to have long hair.

Wow! You've donated a lot! That's awesome! This was only my 2nd time, but I figure I'll let it grow again for the next 18 months and do it again. I was getting tired of it though when it was being tucked into my pants....

That's great dawn! Definitely a worthy cause. I don't blame you for being nervous, that's a big change all at once. A good friend of mine just had 20 inches cut off and donated hers too. She does it about every 3-4 yrs. Her hair grows soooo fast. Can't wait to see the "after" picture!

Thank you cynthiann. People used to always tell me to donate my hair years ago and I looked into it. It's really great to be able to help out like this since I don't always have money, just lots of hair.

I've always had long hair, and I'd like to wait and donate more, but for some reason it's kinda getting on my nerves being this long... I figure it'll take me a year and a half to get enough to donate and still keep it a bit long.

First, I did not know that this could be done. Secondly, what an act of love you are giving. I so admire you for this. My hair used to be down to my waist and I only got it cut to above shoulders at 31 years old.. I adored my long thick shiny hair so I know how you feel. Now I wear it quite short at the back but longer in the front - I'm aiming for a new look. I wil think of you tomorrow. It is a big step but look what you have done for the children. Yoiu will be doubly blessed

That's really great of you to donate to Locks of Love. Your hair looks quite healthy for not having a cut in 18 months. I hate to think what mine would look like if I went that long without trimming it up. Excited to see tomorrows photo.

Thank you, since I changed my vitamin regimne and started using natural products on my hair 2 years ago, I have hardly any split ends. I'm glad that the hair I'm donating will be nice and healthy!

I totally agree that a vitamin regime makes a difference. Can I ask what natural products you use on your hair?

The one thing I have come to know is that hair does grow back once you've cut it off. I have donated my hair in the past. Now my hair is past my shoulders. I am uncertain whether I will cut it once it has grown out or not. One never knows. Short hair is easier to maintain, but I do love my hairstyle to be longer. When I cut my waist-length hair to my shoulders I had a great deal of long-hair envy. But, over time I had grown accustomed to it being shorter. Donating your hair to Locks of Love is a wonderful thing to do. I encourage anyone that has long hair to consider doing this generous donation at least once in their lives. Big huggers to you.

Thanks! It is hard to get used to. I remember the first time I donated. I had never had short hair in my life - I had just turned 40. The first time I brushed my hair after it was cut I about lost my balance because the hair stopped way sooner than I was used to! I always think short hair is harder to take care of. With long hair, it's wash and go. Headbands, ponytails, clips... those are the extent of my styling. With short hair I have to blowdry it again, get it to go the way I want it then spray it so it'll stay in place. My long hair was starting to get on my nerves a bit though - constantly tucking it into my pants, pulling it at night when I rolled over... There's plusses on each side! I'm just glad I can give it to kids that need it!

Hi reinydawn, that's really nice of you to do something for other people's benefits. I admire you for that. I remember cutting my waist-length hair just twice in my whole lifetime and I never even donated that for a good cause (though I gave the hair to the cutter, a gay who's dying to make a wig out of it ). I would have love to cut my hair as well for a good purpose even if I feel that I look better in long hair. I envy your generosity. Hmmmm... let me see that "after" view. I bet you'll still look good then.

Ya know, it's only hair, and it grows back. I like my hair better long also and before long, it will be again. You should see what your stylist wants to do with the wig, maybe he will donate it also?

I think that it is a wonderful thing that you are doing, I donate what I can to those charities but it is not always a lot. I am not sure that I would have so much hair cut off but I think it is lovely that you are doing it.

Hey, it'll grow back again! It will actually be "not too short" in a week or so. I'll get used to it again and by that time it'll start growing long and it'll be time to get more donated!

Hey reinydawn. First, you have really beautiful long hair, I love the curly nad the color:) and then you have such a beautiful heart and you not only show yr sympathy but take actions. really great!!! It's definitely ok to cut the long hair coz it's a change, haha and it will save you so much time to wash and take care of yr hair. I wore short hair for many years and I love it. Look forward to yr update of the new hair style, lol, short hair.

Thanks!!! I have always loved my hair, it's just a different color than most people's because of the tint of red in it. My mother marvels at it now because it was SOOO straight when I was a kid. It wouldn't hold a curl for anything! Now she wonders what I do to it to make it so wavy... With it being short, I have to blow dry it to keep it straight!

The girl that cuts my hair for me always comments on how fast my hair grows. It'll take another 18 months or so before I can donate again, but I'll be doing it as long as I can.

My hair is pretty think too, always has been. It was actually getting long enough to be on my nerves. I don't like it really short, but I know it'll grow out again quickly. And, giving hair is easier than giving money :)

I think it is a wonderful thing your a doing by donating your hair, it is such a small gesture that goes a big way. Your hair will make someone feel very special and you should feel special for giving someone that opportunity. I think your hair will turn out great whenever you get it cut. You have very pretty hair. Good luck hope it all works out good and hope you give yourself a pat on the back for being such a great person!

I think I'm just going to turn into a hair donating factory. I figure if I can take care of my hair, I can get it cut every other year. I don't have a lot of money, but I do have a lot of hair! At least that's something that can help someone. Great job!

That is great that you are going to donate your hair to locks of love. I never can stand to let my hair grow long enough to do that. I get sick of it and chop it off. I only ever get about 6 inches cut though.

Hey reiny! Wow! That is so nice of you to do! Your hair will still be pretty long and will look really nice too! I think it will be fine. It is long enough so that having 12 inches cut off will still be shoulder length. I think it will look great! It will be easier to take care of and you can still wear it up or down if you want. Just think of what you are doing for some lucky child! Nice going girlfriend!
