I don't think they could make the playoffs without Manny. At least not yet. They have a lot of good young guys that still need to be developed. Having Manny on the roster covered most of their batting deficiencies and protected some of them in the lineup. His asking price though is a bit too high, and his attitude towards the free agency seems to be for the highest bidder and he'd go anywhere, so that's a bit of a downer.

I started a discussion about Manny Ramirez being an idiot. Of course it got no responses. But I should say that as a Red Sox fan I was happy to see him go. More than that it was real exciting seeing him bust his butt and huslte and become the ultimate team player once he arrived in L.A!!! But of course he was going to be on his best behavior. He knew he was looking for a contract at the end of this season. I think the Dodgers were fine without him. Alot of their players were injured atthe time they traded for him. Andrew Jones, Jeff Kent, Their best pitcher in Brad Penny and Nomar Garrciappara. But now they have a few free agents along with Manny that they have to decide if they are going to keep them. I will say that I don't think any general manager should even think about signing Ramirez! He is one of the games best hitters and a bumb at the same time. His agent finds it offensive that he is being offered just a 2 yr contract from the dodgers. What do they expect? Besides the fact that Manny is going to be 36 or 37, the way he has shown how his attitude can change when he is not happy is to blame. He pretty much played his way out of Boston. He had a problem with management and as a result he took it out on his teamates buy not giving %100 and not playing. There was the game he said his knees were hurting and he couldn't play. when he was sent to the team physician he couldn't remember which knee it was. I don't remeber him complaining about knee problems when he was busting his a$$ for the dodgers! The guy is an idiot. I still like Manny, but at the same time he shouldn't be rewarded, and shouldn't expect a long term deal from any team for the rest of his career. If it were up to me, I would offer him a 1yr contract and make him play for another one after every season. Maybe that would guaruntee him being on his best behavior. No more of the Manny being Manny crap!
