I read the title to someone elses discussion and it made me think of this one. Why do people think that when they use perfume, cologne, body spray, etc that they have to bathe in it? All you need is one small sprsy or squirt. Why do these people think they need to spray it from head to toe? I sometimes have trouble breathing around these people and I don't have asthma. These people really need to think about this before doing it. If they come in contact with someone with asthma or allergies, they could cause serious problems for these people. When I was pregnant (both times) I couldn't be around perfumes at all, I'd get horribly ill from it. I would literally vomit if I smelled it and the people that do it don't realize it sometimes. So, here's to all the overly "good" smelling people: PLEASE use less perfumes. Do you use perfume? How many sprays do you use? If/when I wear it I use one small spray. Just enough for me to smell it.

Some people just seem to lack common sense in this area. Personally, I don't understand how someone could possibly think that (s)he smells good after all but bathing in fragrance, but some people seem to be under that impression. If it were a friend who did that, I would be blunt with them. Then again, I don't know that someone who did such would actually make it to the level of "friend."

I have "smelled" some people and had the same thoughts as you for an instant. Then reality kicks in and I realize that they did not put the perfume or cologne on to suit me or anyone else. They were it because they like it. And just maybe they like a lot of it. Or when they sprayed in the morning, they had no intentions of running into a pregnant woman that would puke at the smell of them...lol Sometimes its not even the amount that you put on but how a particular perfume works with your body chemistry. Thats why every perfume smells slightly different on everybody. Thats why some people put perfume on in the morning, and all day it smells like they just sprayed. For others the strength of the odor dwindles as the day goes on. Sometimes the fragrances that we choose or like may smell offensive to some people even at one squirt.

I guess that's true sometimes. I used a perfume when I was in school that was too strong even if I only used a tiny dab. Luckily someone told me about it. I've since changed my scent to something lighter. I use perfumes or body sprays to please others, not myself.

Funnily enough my daughter and I were out shopping today and we passed this guy who must have tripped and fell in his bottle because it was that strong! When we walked past him we both coughed it was that strong, and with my daughter being only two she proclaimed loudly about the smell!

Oh I know what you mean. I don't use perfume. Sometimes I use the vanilla scent lotion but it's not too strong a smell. I can't stand being around someone who is "bathed" in cologne or perfume. It makes me nauseas and gives me a headache. A little bit goes a long ways. I remember one time my Son-in-law was wearing too much and I was going somewhere with him in his car and the windows were rolled up. I thought I was going to be sick. It wasn't a bad smell it just was too much and it gave me a headache.

I love vanilla scented stuff. I like it because it's subtle, not overpowering.

When I use perfume I am a two squirts girl... I hope the doesn't mean I bathe in it. I know what you mean about people bathing in it. I used to work with several ladies, and you could smell them each a mile away, when they gathered together in one spot it was almost unbearable.

I think it depends on the scent whether it's too strong or not.

It really depends on what one wears. If it is perfume, it should just be 2 sprays one on both wrists. if it is body spray or body splash or splash cologne or body mist whichever you call it, it has to be sprayed a lot because it will actually not stay longer in your body.

But you don't want to gag the people around you with it being too strong either.

That is a good one.I have been put into this ordeal so many times because of the over enthusiastic people who spray themselves with the most stinking perfumes like they spry pesticides on fields. But it is dangerous to humans this time.

I don't use perfumes. I am very sensitive to smells especially strong perfume smells. It makes me so sick I can't hardly breath. Even those car perfumes I hate the smell of those as well. It makes me so sick through my stomach. I don't like people who wear too much perfume..It does not have to be that much. A dab on the wrist and the neck will do. I think those people who wear too much perfume stinks.

If I am wearing perfume I use one spray. If I am using body sprat I will do maybe 2 or 3 because it is not nearly as strong as my perfume. I do not bathe in it. My son sometimes over does it with his AXE in the mornings.

I like AXE but I think it's just made too strong. I like it at the end of the day when it's nearly worn off.

I do have asthma. Yes, I hate the fact that people think when the put perfume, cologne, body spray, and etc that the have to bath in it. There's so many people that I come in contact with throught out the day that does that. It makes it so hard for me to breath. Happy Mylotting!!!!

I don't really wear perfume. If I do, it's the bath and body works spray, and I will use a few squirts, only because it's not very strong at all, and I think it wears off quickly. I used to yell at my husband daily because he used a body spray that was very strong, and the bathroom would still wreak an hour after he'd sprayed it. I always yelled at him that he was using too much, although he didn't have an overpowering smell, just the bathroom. I finally stopped buying him that spray, and bought him normal cologne instead, the kind he has to use his finger to dab it on himself. That's much easier to tolerate.

Well you can;t really avoid that lots of people using the spray and cologne so much. I remember back in college, one of my classmates sometimes ask me for a perfume or cologne, then the bad thing is she spray lots of it, i mean one or two is enough, that's why i stop bringing cologne or perfume with me coz they will empty it for me so fast. I only use one -two spray of cologne and perfume.one for my neck and one for my wrist. And i avoid buying strong fragrance. Happy posting.

I'm going to excuse elderly women since I have just recently read that a person's sense of smell (also sense of taste) decreases greatly in the elderly. So we should at least give the grannies a break!

But they can't smell it. That's like telling a blind man to make sure his clothes match.

That may be true so then I'd have to kindly tell them that it's too strong.

Well I think if they knew it was too strong when they were young they should know that it's still too strong now. They are the worst ones that do it.

Oh yeah I've encountered those people that you can smell before they get to you! I do use cologne occasionally but a very minimal amount. I've always heard that the way to tell if a cologne is the right one for you is that you should not be able to smell it on yourself (other than when you first spray it). If it matches your body chemistry then you wont be able to detect the fragrance yourself. I try to steer clear of overpowering smelling people and if I am in a situation that I have to be around them I tell them that their cologne is way too strong. I've had some looks over that remark! LOL

I'll have to agree with you there lol, lot's of people use wayyyyyyy too much! I don't have allergies to it, but I find I start to get a headache if I'm around those heavily sprayed people for any amount of time. I don't wear fragarance too often. When I do, I just use a little dab behind my ears, or over my heart. And I don't buy perfumes in sprays, they always shoot too much out at a time; I get the kind in a bottle so I can control it better. My one Aunt was allergic to it, so I never wore it to family functions; neither did I ever wear any to work. Working all those years as a nurse, the last thing a sick person wants to smell is a heavily perfumed person. I don't understand why people have to be so heavy handed when applying perfumes and such! Just a 'hint' of scent goes a long, long, way :-)

You are so right. It's like makeup, it's best to put it on to look as you don't have any on. Perfume, use just enough that you can smell it.
