Opponents of Prop 8 turn to terrorism...

Envelopes containing White Powder have caused the closing of two buildings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This bumps the attacks against the church from simple vandalism to terrorism. Chances are niether substance is toxic, but that doesn't matter when determining if an attack is an act of terror or not. The act of sending the threat through the mail is a federal offense in itself, the threat of chemical or biological attack makes it a terrorist act. Of course the vast majority of people who opposed California's Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as between man and woman are using peaceful means to express themselves. They have every right to voice their outrage, and work to affect change. The actions of a few who are using the issue to justify their violence should not be used to lump all of them together. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=4787495

There is no evidence that this has anything to do with people who are against proposition 8. All that article says is the the FBI is looking at whether there is a link or not. This proposition was a backward step as it took away the existing rights of gay people to marry. I wish you would not jump to conclusions like this.

Oh, so now I don't have a right to an opinion?

You see, I have this thing that I expect a bit of intelligence from the reader. I figure that since we are in a discussion board where we talk about our opinions, I don't have to insult readers and bog down the discussion by stating obvious things like "this is my opinion". Apparently I over estimated you.

You said nothing about it being your opinion, just that it was people who were gay or pro gay who did this thing. I mean I could get really paranoid and say it could be people trying to set up people who were pro gay etc. I just think it was wrong to attack them the way they did by voting to prevent them from being married. I mean even Australia is refusing to allow marriage but at least we allow them to be a legal de facto couple. I personally think they should be allowed to get married.

We could use this same argument for the Muslim Arabs. Just because some of them bombed, killed, knifed, does not mean they are all bad. And we should use this argument. My husband is discriminated against because of he is African, because he is Muslim, because he is an Arab...and he would not hurt a bug. He picks them up with a paper towel to get rid of them. Never the less, those gays and anyone else who is violent like this deserves to pay for their crimes. I do not feel sorry for them at all. Now we have our own gay liberation army.

Obama may change his mind. During the election he consulted with a gay bishop three times.

Exactly. Many people take the acts of Islamist extremists and try to paint every Muslim with the same broad brush. They have the right to that opinion, but we can't base public policy on it.

That is no way to get their point across. It is like a little kid through a tantrum. I understand their desire for equal rights. But that is just wrong to reduce to violence. It makes people turn an even blinder eye against them.

This is crazy. I am all for feeling strongly about your beliefs but this is crazy. It is as bad as the pro-life nut jobs (I am pro-life but not a nut job), bomb abortion clinics. I don't get it.

Agreed, we all have the right to support or oppose any issue, but turning to terrorism is not the answer.

I think the militant and yes, terrorist actions of these groups that are popping up since the passing of Prop 8, is disgusting and counter productive. It gives a black eye to the cause. Fear will not change law, ever. It might even create a backlash in making people who once supported the cause begin to go against it. I think you mentioned this to me in a comment on another discussion. Every person in the US has the right to speak and we have the right to disagree with what someone says. However, we do not have the right to bully anyone into silence. This is what these groups are attempting to do and it's sad and wrong. I must say, that I do support the cause, but I am completely against these methods.
