Should the government bail car manufacturing giant General Motors. It looks like they may not make it if they don't get bailed out. Where do we draw the line on bailing out these major corporations. Should we bail out every company that under performs due to whatever reason.

While I didn't like it, I agree that the banks had to be shored up or Wall Street would have collapsed and our economy would have gone into a serious tailspin. I don't agree with bailing out any automotive company or any other large or small corporation. These companies saw their earnings going down...so did the unions who insisted on high wages. Once the government starts bailing out business, where do you draw the line then? We can't afford to bail out everyone.

Your last sentence says it best. The automotive industry in particular has resisted producing affordable vehicles, seeking the highest profits they could take from customers, and they saw this coming. Cutting prices is how Walmart has managed to run many large department stores out of business. Other industries need to follow suit in order to keep customers coming in...not expect the government to bail them out.

How about right before we bail out the first one. I can almost see the argument with the banks because it was government involvement that put them into trouble in the first place, but basically what needs to happen is that government say out of business all together. Don't get in their way on the way up, and don't try to soften their landings on the way down.

Since starting of recession, bailing out has become a norm. Everyday we find in news that some companies, which had very high reputation and high priced shares in the market, is being bailed out due to insolvency.
I think answering should be much more from the law enforcing bodies to find this situation has came, why it was not anticipated much earlier? No doubt CEOs and top management of this organizations are pocketing out huge amount of money every year, so the should be liable to bear that much losses of the company.
