What does that lock icon mean on Wikipedia?

at the top right there is a lock looking thing (like you see at the bottom of browsers saying its secure) and it says "that the article is semi protected due to ongoing high risk of vandalism" when you hover it.. what has been happening?? hackers?? people posting false info or something? i dont know anything really about wikipedia so thats why im clueless..

I don't know what it is either, just that where people are allowed to edit at will, this kind of thing will happen, and websites such as Wikipedia will always need to protect themselves from someone else's idiotic crap. I wouldn't maintain a website like that if you paid me to do it. I'd probably lose my temper at some idiot eventually, and lose my dang job. LOL
