Are you using a laptop at home, or still using a desktop one?

Hello, i'm in the needing to change my home computer. I actually use an old self assembled desktop, based on an athlon 2600. Considering the actual power of laptops, i'm thinking to buy a new laptop instead of a desktop. I would like to know if you're using a laptop at home, or if you guess is still better a desktop. Thanks in advance

In my opinion, they serve different purpose. I use both a desktop and a laptop. My desktop is used for entertainment purpose like playing games, watching movies etc. It is also my primary PC to do my work at home. The laptop is meant for simple usage like net surfing and bringing out for use during discussions or group projects. When I'm overseas and can connect to the Internet, I use it to call (Skype) back to my wife. It saves my pocket from high IDD call rates. One point to note is that a laptop consumes relatively lessor power than a desktop as a whole so it help to cut down electricity usage and a lower utility bill.

I definitely agree. My laptop doesn't even have a disk drive, so playing games is kind of hard. Another benefit of laptops is portability in the home. A desktop is limited to one room. With a laptop, you can be in your room working on homework, and then take it downstairs and email or browse the internet while hanging out with the family.

ohhh, i have desktop at home and laptop at school. i think for home, desktop is better, coz u need not move it, in this sense, laptop has no advantage. what's more, the same hardwork, the laptop is more expensive than desktop. so why not choose a good desktop with good price at home?;)

I have been using a desktop most of the time, I have recently bought an HP Pavilion and it's what I have been using lately although I do find the desktop a lot quicker with downloads as it's on broadband on a cable modem while I am using wireless and mobile broadband on the laptop..

We don't have any desktop at home, both my husband and I use laptops. We prioritized buying laptops first because it is portable, making it easier to bring work anywhere. We don't need a very powerful computer yet to we are ok with laptops for the meantime. My husband will start recording and arranging his music soon so we will have to budget for a desktop because it is a lot easier to customize a desktop to make it more powerful and fit for what you want to use it in.

We have a laptop and a desktop but I prefer to use the desktop as I can get a good posture sitting at a desk rather than in a comfy chair plus I just like my desktop better than the laptop!

I bought an assembled desktop with windows XP three years back and it is giving me good service so far. Initially i had planned to buy a laptop but was advised against it by my brother who is a computer engineer. He says that if something goes wrong with them it is difficult to repair them because of the integrated circuit system and getting parts almost impossible. He says that upto now he has used and discarded four laptops but he needs them becoz he travels frequently. At home he uses his desktop.Desktops have the advantage of being repairable and also their parts are freely available in the market. Moreover by cannibalism ie by using the parts of one brand of computer for another one can repair them.My desktop byGod`s grace is so far working very well and since i am retired i really do not need a laptop.

I use desktop at home and also at school. I am thinking of buying a laptop because I can bring it to school and work on the same computer as I work at home. Disadvantage of two desktops is that I have to send my work from school home and vice versa. Sometimes it is uncomfortable. So as soon as I save some money I buy laptop and will use it also at home :-)

Hi, i'm using a laptop, but i use external mouse/keyboard when i'm at home, as well as an external crt. I guess it depends on your purposes, if you wanna play the last racing game, then better you buy a new desktop. If you use the computer to work, a laptop can be more useful. See you

Well am still using a desktop at home, and till date I have no plans to switch to a laptop. Actually i find a desktop much easier to handle and now that I have a lot of knowledge about the hardware and the assembling, I can take care of it myself. I though of switching to a laptop a few months back, but then I once used my friends laptop, and its not that easy to work on, in case of typing and all. Moreover am not like the work while on the run kind of a guy, so I don't need a laptop. Its also easier to upgrade your desktop, on your own, whenever you feel you need it, but with laptops, you need to carry them around to the service centers. Well still the choice is yours and a lot depends on the type of work you do and type of place you live and also the kind of service you get. Take Care God Bless YOU PS- buy a laptop on the higher end, cause you won't be upgrading it too soon. Its always better to be prepared.

Since I have an ancient laptop, I use my PC. Laptops seem to be limiting, there are some programs that just do not run as well on them.

I haven't owned a desktop since 1990. Laptops rule for me, but the smaller forms like the netbooks...no, I want more screen territory: my current laptops are 17.5" and 18.5" beasties. I tried an HP 20" but it was too heavy and the batteries ran out too soon.

I prefer to have a desktop computer at home. they are usually cheaper and more powerful. I mean, you can't get a identical desktop PC and laptop for the same money. But if you need the computer for only work and probably surfing the web, than yes. Get a laptop, assuming that you are not playing any games on the computer it would probably be a good choice. And you wouldn't need a table for it as you can practically sit anywhere with a laptop. But if there is no need for a computer that you can carry around than I suggest to get a desktop pc. As already said, their cheaper and why bother buying a laptop for a lot more money if you could get a desktop PC for a lot less money save the rest for something else?
