Do you judge a post by its length?

This may be a weird question, but when you're viewing myLot or any forum on the Internet, how do you react if someone has posted a post that you consider long? Do you judge good based on the effort the person put into writing it? Do you just skim through it? Or do you react differently? In my opinion, a long post is not necessarily a good post. Some people (like me sometimes xD) get confused when writing long replies and forget to make connections between their ideas, therefore confusing the reader and causing them to miss the point altogether. Long posts, if written properly, however, can help the writer back up their opinion or point of view, although in some cases, this is not necessary. For me, the most important thing is that I understand what he/she was trying to say. Usually when encountering a long post, I try to read all of it and look for the main idea. If I feel that the person has done a good job of displaying it clearly, I'm left with a positive impression. This isn't always the case, however, and it can happen in shorter posts just as efficently as well. Hmm, this was kind of a long post on its own. xD

I normally am first attracted to the title and then I judge the post by the content. I also read the responses to see if I have anything to add to the discussion. Basically I don't look for a certain length, even though I find it hard to start a discussion with a one-liner or something that basically requires a yes or no answer. I do tend to get frustrated with the one-liners as it appears that the poster is just trying to meet a quota and not start good discusttions.

I agree. I find it really hard to respond to simple questions on forums such as "What's your name?", "How old are you?", or a yes or no questions because I always feel like I should add a bit more. Then, my answer just feels so empty. xD I also agree with your opinion on the people that post a single line just to post something. Either contribute, whatever the amount necessary to get your point across, or don't post at all. =P

Well, I am sick of seeing long posts that just never get to the bottom of it or completely disregard my original question. A lot of people have a whole lot to say about nothing at all. I think they might have used a lot of their effort to write a whole lot on my discussion, but perhaps he or she did not even take the time to read my original discussion post at all. Though, I would never take a one sentence post seriously. I mean, that's just wimpy. I don't think anyone can do it in just one post.

I don't mind longer posts as long as they stay on the topic and not wander all over. The shorter ones tend to get responded to quicker though. ~~IN SEARCH OF PEACE WITHIN~~ **AGAINST THE STORMS, I WILL STAND STRONG**

Sometimes I do judge the discussion by it's length. The longer it is the better. The information are almost there. I know it's wrong so I'm trying to read the long answer as much as I can. And I found out that there are longer answer that doesn't made sense anymore. Anyway, it really rarely happens.

Usually I don't read a very long posts. For me short posts will do as long as it fits with the topic or answers some questions.

I normally do not judge a post by length. They do, however, catch my attention more than smaller posts. =P As you said, just because a person wrote a lot does not mean that they wrote well. Length =/= quality. I've noticed many members of this site post responses completely irrelevant to the discussion, and it seems that they do so only to earn more. The reason I tend to be attracted towards longer posts is because, again, as you mentioned, it allows more opportunity to back up your view or stance and get your point across clearly. That's what I expect to see from lengthy replies anyways. A lot of the time I don't. xD Some topics require only short answers. One liners, in some cases, can get a point across just as clear as an entire paragraph (just like this entire post xD). Because of this, it would be unfair to judge a post by its length.

No, I judge people on the content of the post they make. It's all about giving a good statement, opinion or suggestion. Some people need to write a few sentences to come with the best solution while others can do it in one sentence.
