Is it Me or Have You Noticed....

Have you all noticed a trend to the types of posts that generate the most interest here on myLot? In other words I think the posts that get the most responses are the lame, mindless type of post. Do you agree? People seem to like to respond more to the, "Do you like pickles on your hamburger?" type post....than to the, "what will become of our future should the Democrats take over the Senate?" type of post. Geez, I feel like Andy Rooney on 60 minutes...

Those topics are easier and faster to respond to, bringing up the earnings. Theoretically, a complex and argumented answer should be evaluated much more, but there's no way to see how much is worth a single post.

Ahh Camaroz, your point is well taken however, you base your response on the fact that you feel people are only here for the money. While this is for many if not most, not all of us are here for the cash. It was a good way to hook us and reel us in, but I come for the commraderie these days as do many others.

this is for gotobx you are talking about other peoples discussion look at this one you started. it's no better than the ones you try to put people down for. gotOBX (288) What's Your Favorite Smell? I like fresh cut grass and the scent of a woman. And a Pizza place, and the doughnut shop, and the salt air by the ocean....

Ahh you are correct Sweetcakes! Now this is what I'm talking about. Now we have a bonafide discussion on our hands! If you were to go back even further you would see that I use to make many posts like that and I even poked fun at myself for doing so. And I'm sorry my personality does come across abrasive sometimes however this is the written word and it is much more difficult to convey feelings here since we are not face to face. I mean no disrespect to anyone here. I wasn't putting anyone down, my thought here was that people here make those posts and get more responses, than say this discussion we are having now will generate. I was simply bringing that up and hoped to find some like thinkers to discuss this with. And I appreciate your response. Now I'm going to have to keep an eye out for you Sweetcakes! My Mom is from Akron by the way, love that part of the country. Bring It!

People like simple things because they can relate to it and have an opinion about it. I reply to topics like that, but i also reply to more interesting topics like this one and things that make me think. It is more fun that way. Also, posting short answers to simple discussions sometimes actually decreases your rating. That happened to me several times, and now i post longer responses and my rating hasn't gone down since.

I feel ya. Again my point was a short simple post at this site takes off. It has been my experience in seeing the simple posts go of forever. But the thought provoking ones fizzle like a flan in the cupboard.

I agree with you! I was so frustrated yesterday at the generic discussions and finally just quit answering and called it a night. I was lucky enough to find a few that were a thoughtful and intelligent change of pace and did answer those but it was slim pickings. I am currently looking through those with no responses hoping to find some more thought provoking discussions (like this one!). To be honest, I am amazed that the same discussions are being posted over and over because the new guidelines say they will be deleted...and mylot has been deleting them. Those starting the discussion and those answering then lose all the time spent posting.

ilse72 thanks for the response. However I don't recall you responding to any of my other posts. So are you sure you look to respond to only thought provoking discussions? Kidding of course. Well said, I too have found myself frustrated many times here. I think the discussions that seem to be repeated over and over come from new members that haven't noticed their posts have already been asked in the past. It does happen quite a bit. I look forward to rapping with you in the future.

Trust me, I'm endlessly entertaining. I too just peruse the posts and grasp at ones that I find interesting. I have some friends now that I love reading here at myLot. I look forward to their posts everyday. I'm addicted. Damn, another vice to add to my many other. Know a good therapist?

LOL...I am sure I just missed your other questions. I am here off and on during the day so my posting is hit or miss. I also don't follow any particular poster. I just read the discussions and if I have something to add, I do. However, I can honestly say this is the first one I've seen by you. :)

Haha. Yes, I think that people respond to such posts because they don't require much thought and can be explained in just a couple of words. I don't think too many people are worried about the content of posts, they just want to quick post to one discussion and move onto the next to earn the money.

For some earning a buck is why they are here. It is like a sport. Lets see how much I can make. For others, myself included this site is a place to rap about what is important to me and what is happening in the world/my world in general. The money is gravey!

I notice there are lots of the less serious sorts of discussions, and that they get lots of repsonses.. but then this isn't mensa now is it? I myself usually only respond to posts that I think are actually intended to get suggestions, answers or debate an issue. (and how you cook your meat to me is an issue as I hate having all the nutrients cooked out of food. This is slightly different from the pickles on your burger, but falls close to the same classification.)

Indeed it is not Mensa. Perhaps it is just me friend. Perhaps I expect too much from this site. Perhaps I'm being too critical and judgmental tonight. I don't know. I guess I lost site of the fact that perhaps the things that people write about at this site are truly important to them. What I find comical might be serious to the poster. I doubt it most times but I'm sure this is the case some of the time. NOW...if I read a post that said, "how do you cook your meat?" I would hope the poster would elaborate on this topic and not only ask "how do you cook your meat?" Reason being is that opens up a huge field of interpretation. I would want some detail like...."how do you cook your meat?" "I cook mine so that not all the nutrients are burned away leaving a healthy piece of meat." Then I would know where you're going with this and the responses you would get would probably be more meaningful to you. Heck, we might even learn a thing or two while we're at it.

Silva, Although I pose many questions in my posts. Many of my posts are statements as opposed to questions or opinions. I just throw it out there and wonder if anyone will comment on them. Many times I don't recieve responses or very few. But now and then someone can relate and I feel the bond. I too am interested in holistic remedies and cures outside the traditional medical field. I believe strongly in the powers Reiki and diet.

Yes people find easy answer to simple and basic question. I have to discussions on 0 at the moment and few with poor answers. I don't know whay but if the discussion looks a bit higher level people do not write.

YES! I start all sorts of discussions that I consider to be full of possiblity and many people shoot them down with pathetic "no i don't" repsonses. I even try to get people to further explain themselves past the yes or no part yet I get lots people disregarding most of my question. Now...yes, I will admit to starting some corny discussions as well...and I am guilty of responding to some bad discussions but I always love finding the good ones to contribute to.

Yes we've all started corny discussion. And I too shake my head when I see the simple "no" or "yes" answers. I have answered like that to some discussions. But I did it out of jest. Because the discussion topics were like...."do you breath air?"

It's because they are easier to answer and earn those dollars. Then again, what better way to get to know someone but by knowing the simple things about them.

Well I somewhat agree with you. Sadly it is when we really get to know each other and the baggage we inevitably carry with us that we pack up and run! Keeping it lite here at myLot is fine. I feel it is when we push it and let people know who we really are and what we are going through, that I can better relate with others. But I get what you're saying as well. Thanks!

its a good discussion for the silly ones, and benefitial to everyone bcoz people will earn and increase their rating just by typing "yes/no/cheeseburger/false/im 21" kind of answers..

macubx, when you say rating you mean that number beside everyone's name right? I feel like such a meathead here sometimes. I just logon, read, post, and log off. Never really paying attention to how this monster rolls.

aahhh..how do i contain niagara falls in my teacup? mylot stimulates my brain in ways i have never thought of..and i respond to posts, and choose what kind of posts to respond to for that matter, depending on my mood. but as for your own observation, it's pretty interesting how poeple choose to connect without really connecting.then again, yes, we cannot judge others for what their minds are made up with. to be honest i have been disappointed reading most of the posts and responses here, but all in all, i still enjoy because a single, seemingly mindless post can get my brain going.

If you come in with an open mind and don't expect too much, this site isn't all that bad. When I get on a good thread here, I love it. For instance this discussion has been my most stimulating to date.

Unfortunately you are right. It is because they are quick to answer, so you can get a posting/points in. I prefer the meatier discussions though, and I will continue to ask and answer them.

Yes I do!! I like like the quality questions better. I like to help someone that is new here. Or I like to read about things that I don't know and learn from others that are more experienced on the internet. LIke others have said here, a lot of people just want the easier questions like what colour are your eyes so they can just answer quickly and not think. But they don't know that you earn more for quality responses.

I was intrigued by the money at first, but quickly got caught up in the posts. Dare I say I would visit this site even if they didn't pay. I look forward to certain users here and what they have to say, keeps me coming back.

I steer clear of the one answer discussions. They're not entertaining and I don't gain anything from them (except maybe half a cent o_O). I think it's a good idea to gather a group of friends who post interesting discussions, and when the front page is flooded, go see what they're up to. It's usually something entertaining. Having said that... I also stay away from political debates.

got, it takes all kinds of people to make the world go round. dumb, smart, longwinded, boring, crazy, etc. there are stupid posts because some people would like to come on here for fun and the longwinded posts for people who want to chat for real conversation. you choose which posts you want to read and which ones you don't.

Sadly, that is true. I have posted, "If you were elected to be the leader of the US tomorrow, what would be your first act?" This posting only received 3 responses. However, one night while having a disagreement about soft or crunchy fries, I posted, "French Fries: Soft or Crunchy?" This received 36 posting! But I still try to come up with questions to make one think. I like reading the different answers. Diversity is a wonderful thing!
