Can anyone tell me how to place links into your profile page.....

I've been trying to place links onto my profile page witout success.I need to know what steps i'm leaving out... i'm having trouble figuring out what i'm doing wrong...I know how to put banners on the profile page...i'm familar with html some what but i don't know why i can't link to my referral links...I've try cut and paste without success so if anyone out there has the answer i sure would appreicate the help...
