I love chinese food but have never figured out the right way to use chopsticks. I've tried several times but my fingers get all messed up and I end up dropping my food. Is there a secret to eating with chopsticks? Which do you prefer? Forks or chopsticks?

Hi LittleBeanSprout, learn how to use chopstick is no secret, just be patient, You will do it. I like to use chopsticks when I eat noodles, I use fork and spoon when eat rice. I feel that use chopsticks to eat rice is hard and slow, so I like to use fork and spoon when I eat rice.

I think it would be cool to learn how to eat with chopsticks. I have a friend who is half-Korean, so she can eat with chopsticks like a champion. So, if I want my food everywhere except my mouth, I prefer chopsticks. But since I don't know how to eat with chopsticks, I prefer to eat with a fork.

Well when eating Chinese and Japanese food, i always use the chopstick. I learned how to use it when I was a child so I'm pretty good at it. You can practice using it by transferring marbles from one bowl to another. If you don't have time, then just make sure to grip the upper stick with your thumb and pointer, the lower stick with you pinky and ring finger, and the middle finger in between as a balance. This is how I do it. :)

I'm chinese, so i can use both. I prefer using chopstick to eat noodles and sushi. For rice, i prefer using spoon and forks. Well, there is no secret for using chopsticks, the only way is to practice more and hold it properly, and you must know how to control the strength, otherwise you will find it very hard and painful in your fingers (this is what my husband experienced). I know there are some learning chopstick for kids, but not sure whether it is also available for adult or not. You can try to search for learning chopstick, perhaps this might help you learn faster.

It is depends on eating what kinds food. Chinese food I will definitely prefer chopsticks, western food I think forks is preferable. For example, when taking japanese food, I'm preferred to use their Japan style chopsticks.

i can eat with a fork or with a chopstick. there is no trick on using chopstick someone just have to show you how to hold it properly and you do the rest. it is not hard but it will be complicated if you hold the sticks in the wrong way. but for me it is okay if i eat the food woth fork or chopstick.
