I want my flying car!

When I was a child there were shows like, The Jetson's, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica, The fifth element etcetera. They all promised that in the technocratic society of the 21st century on, that everyone would have personal aircraft vehicles that fly through the air rather than the ground bound rolling metal that we currently use for transportation. Though technology in some fields and disciplines has taken leaps and bounds into the future, we still do not have our electric flying machines.
I want my flying car! Is there anything that you can remember as a child seing on TV or a movie about the future, that you were certain we were going to have invented by now? If so what did you expect to already have by now in this brave new world of the 21st century and beyond? Do u want your flying car too.?

Hahahaha! I want a flying car so bad I can taste it! Actually, I want something more like what they had in Star Wars, or even Blade Runner. It makes much more sense to me than rolling along the ground!

Flying cars would be more practical, but they are probably more concerned about the air traffic industry which is a multi bilion dolar industry that I am sure will not like being abandoned. It would make all but international travel obsolete. Plus they would come falling out of the sky if there were some type of mishap. With no controlling where they fell. Plus drunken drivers would be weaving into buildings and other motorists, so I am sure they have shelved the prototype if they have one based on these concerns.
