Wrestling?

I'm talking about the sport, not the fighting in the livingroom, lol. Do your kids wrestle? What age did they start? I got a paper home yesterday about sign ups for wrestling, and I'm thinking of getting my 6 year old son into it. He's got the body for it, and he's a good boy who doesn't fight or anything, so it's not like he'd use it to fight with other kids in school. I think it will just give him something to do. His older brother has 2 sports, his sister is in 3 activies, he is currently only in 1. Would you do it? What do you think of wrestling?

I am actually surprised they have wrestling for 6 year old's. I don't think they start nearly that young around here. One of my brothers was in wrestling in junior high and high school. He always enjoyed it I think. He was kind of a nerd, and I think it helped him feel more a part of something.

I need to get my daughter in dance of gymnastics when she turns 3. She will be 2 in January. She would love it.

It's an instructional thing for kids in 1st through 6th grade. They're just going to learn the basics of it. I'm not sure if they've had it before this year, I've never seen it. But this community is great for the activities. There's always something to get the kids into. The dance program starts them off at 3 yrs old. I remember my daughter started it the month before she turned 4. She's 6 now and is in dance for the 3rd year in a row.

My daughter's two younger sons, 15 and 12 1/2,wrestle all the time - but at home! The older one wanted to sign up for wrestling at school and she said, 'no way'! He has enough moves without learning more. He sports a fat lip on one side due to wrestling here at my house without us in the room. Busted his lip terribly and it bled forever. He doesn't need anymore of that. Besides, as she said, he's too small to be wrestling. He just doesn't have the body, I don't think.

These boys aren't fighting when they wrestle, although they do get mad and fight at times. They just love to wrestle. What happened with the lip here is, the younger one was on the bottom and the older one happened to have his head too close to the younger one. The younger one raised his head back, striking his brother in the mouth. They both were very alarmed and wasn't going to tell us, but I heard them sneak into the bathroom talking and shutting the door. I almost freaked out when I saw the amount of blood and how bad it looked. Didn't phase them, although he now wishes he hadn't been wrestling. But it doesn't stop them.

I would definitely do it if he wanted to join. I think that kids can get overwhelmed if they do too much. Worse than that, they could get into big trouble if they have lots of unstructured time to get into trouble due to being bored. It's about balance, something that parents should control.

I used to frown upon parents who got their kids into too many activities. Especially working parents who's child was with a sitter before and after school. I always felt children needed a degree of free time, as well as bonding time with family. However my kids seem to have too much free time, and they don't use it wisely. Now that it is getting colder out, they are going outdoors less frequently, so they spend their free time either fighting or watching TV. I think their activities are a more constructive way of spending that time.

I have a daughter and she's an only child so no one to play with. She is a bit boyish though and when my husband's daughters are here. It's like we're raising boys as they all act like boys. They wrestle and play with skateboards. Gosh! I prefer to raise girly girls. LOL

My daughter is a girly girl, but she still loves to skateboard and fight with her brothers. She's my only girl with 4 brothers, but she's as girly as they come, but she will play with her brother's toys and do her brother's activities when she wants.
