I'm just really ticked off right now. My husband was in a car accident over a month ago. The other guy swerved into his lane and hit him. Luckily everyone was okay, but the car suffered over $1000 in damages. So, we've been waiting for the insurance check from the other guy's company. We got something a couple weeks ago saying it was being delayed because of some accident report glitch.
Well my husband called them today to figure out what was going on, and they say it's still under investigation, because the police report was not complete.
First of all, how are they investigating it? What are they actively doing to investigate it? Probably nothing, right? So don't feed us a line of BS.
Then, I'm really not buying that the police report is not finalized. Seriously, how would a police report not be finalized? I just don't see that as being possible. It's been well over a month.
My guess is they're just feeding us this cr@p to shut us up, and they have no intentions of cutting the check. We were really counting on that money to fix both of our vehicles which are due for inspection before the end of the year. He doesn't plan on fixing the actual accident damage, but he needs new tires and a water pump, and my van needs about $400 in repairs.
Has an insurance company ever done this to you? What did you do about it?
Do you think the insurance company is just trying to pull our leg? If it was more money I'd probably call a lawyer about it... but nobody was hurt, and it's probably not worth calling a lawyer.

First of all, did you get your copy of the police report when the accident happened? Also, what insurance company are you with? Hopefully, it's not Nationwide! My daughter really had a time with them when she got hit from the back and knocked into the front of another car, really damaging her car. They half fixed it. Then her son and daughter had a wreck and really totaled the car, but the crazy agent refused to total it! She had a jeep worth nothing now, paying the insurance where they should have replaced it, and the woman refused! Again, they only fixed it, and it's never been totally fixed. It has a leak at the back in a window, and neither of her front door windows will roll up or down! They said it didn't happen in the wreck. Well, they flipped around and round, hitting a tree on both doors - really just messed that Jeep Cherokee up. I will say they did do her good when her son had a wreck in his truck with a blown tire and hit a tree. The highway patrol came out, wrote up the accident and they took that and never sent out an agent. They just sent out a wrecker to pick it up and told her they'd replace it and pay off the truck. In fact, she got $1,000 more than she paid for the truck in the first place and got enough to buy another with the exception of $1,000 which her son paid on his new truck. But that's the only good thing she ever got from them. She changed insurance companies back in the summer.

I think the company we're dealing with is Prudential, but I'm not positive. We have Allstate, but this isn't going through our insurance, it's going through the other guy's, cuz it was his fault.
I'm pretty sure my husband did get a copy of the accident report, but where it is now I couldn't tell you. Things are forever disappearing in this house. I told him to have the insurance company fax him a copy of all their paperwork. He's also going to tell them that we plan on speaking to a lawyer, although as I said, $1,000 really isn't worth a lawyer. Unless they pay up, looks like we'll be SOL.

I don't know anything about Prudential. We've had Allstate before, but we have Farmer's which pays off quickly. We had a burglary here about 6 years ago and we had our money within 2 weeks from the time the adjuster came out. They have great adjusters. I meant to say adjusters, not agent,in the other comment.
I hope you get the money. I wouldn't let up on them, though. Perhaps your insurance could fend for you. I know some will.

Sometimes I really hate insurance companies. When I had my company my employees got in an accident caused completely by the other person. The insurance paid for everything except my deductible but told me that even that should be covered. Two years latter they never had paid me back for the deductible even though they still said because it was completely the other persons fault that I did not have to pay it. I finally dropped the insurance and went to a different company. Once again my employees were in an accident and once again it was not their fault the new company paid up with no problem and I did not pay anything. But the repairs were awful and I had problems with that truck tell I sold it to a scrap company.

Unfortunatly this is not my insurance company I'm dealing with, it's the other person's.
