When does DEPRESSION really hit you rock bottom?

My mother lost the love of her life for 28 years on aug.3rd 2007, she lost her home this year in july and All she does now is drinks at least a six pack of tall boys a day, and goes through 1 pack of smokes a day. Well she met a guy who is unemployed and filing for disability. well my mom and him got a place together then he started acting funny, then out of nowhere he kicked her out of the place they got. Left her with just a basket full of cloths, and everything in there place is hers and my fathers and he is not letting her have her stuff back, he said to take him to court well, now all this has happened she drinks alot and cries everyday telling heself she does not know what to do anymore. She feels like giving up. I tell her everything is gonna be all right and to take it one day at a time. She has been staying with me for 2 weeks andi do not mind it, But i just wish there was more i could do for her and say to her. Can anyone give me any advice???
