Why are people so careless?

I had to pay to park at my dorm this year and I had to pay $250 and I did get a pretty nice parking spot. However, since my car has been parked in this parking lot, it's gotten hit which has knocked my passenger side mirror off (thankfully we were able to snap it back into place) and my driver side door has a huge dent in it now. This past weekend it was rather windy and the people in my building can't carry groceries and use shopping carts from Kroger (which is a rather long distance away) to bring their items back. One of the carts blew into my car (at least I'm assuming, I'm sure someone just could have pushed it into my car on purpose college kids are idiots) and now there is a huge dent in the drivers side of my car and the headlight is busted simply because people can't put things back where they belong. I just found out today that I have to pay $75 to get the new headlight for my car because it's just all one giant piece and that's really expensive. That's $75 that I do not have, especially not to spend on someone else's carelessness. Have you ever had anything like this happen to you before? Either with your car or something else that belongs to you? How much damage (how much did you have to pay) for it?

Some people simply do not think at all before they act and while sometimes the things that happen when our car is parked are accidents, at least the person responsible could leave a note to say what has happened. As you say, getting the car repaired is expensive and some things like the headlight cannot be left broken as you do need it when driving at night or on a dull day. I often wonder if it is because the person responsible for the damage thinks that someone with a nice car can afford to pay for the damage or if they think "it is only little and will not cost much". Yes it has happened to us too but ours was in the supermarket car park. Our brand new car which we had just picked up from the dealer and we decided to get some groceries before going home. Imagine our shock when we returned to the car less than 15 minutes later to find a dent in the passenger door. It appeared that someone had pushed a shopping trolley very hard into our car and whether an accident or not, it cost us several hundred dollars to have repaired. At the time the car had been driver for only 11km which made it seem much worse of course. It was no worse than any other person's car (regardless of the car's age) being hit in the same manner. My partner was so upset for a long time as this was the first ever new vehicle she had owned. Now if I see someone hit another parked car, I will write out a note for the owner so they have a chance to at least chase up the other person and maybe get the car fixed.

My car is old but it was in pretty OK shape before I got up here. I guess they're probably thinking that hey, it's old if it gets damaged it doesn't matter. But it does matter. It's someone elses property and it costs money to fix whether the car is old OR new. It doesn't matter, it's still irresponsible.

It doesn't matter how new or old the car is because it belongs to you and someone else damaging it and not letting you know is akin to vandalism. Thanks for best response.

well yes I do have to pay for all kinds of stuff thats silly. Once some construction workers carelessly blew rocks over the edge causeing several small shatters in my windshield as well as tiny chips all over the van from front end to back and never took care of it. Asked us for rediculous proof. Then just the other day I got one of those Rosemary Sirloin subs from quiznos and it was absolutly disgusting and the guy argued about refunding my money.

The people who are careless have no ambition or no thought of future.they just think about present and they don't care about anything other then current day's joy...that makes them really careless in there life...they don't know which will make them feel bad in there future...:(
