Anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year? For those that do not know what it is: it is a contest for bragging rights. Whoever can write a 50,000 word novel in a month wins! I did it last year and won. I don't think I am going to make it this year. I have been to into trying to earn money online than anything else. Just wanted to know if there were any other NaNo's out there. How is it coming for you? Good Luck!

I tried that in 2006, and decided at the last minute this year that I'd try it again. Well, I ended up giving up after a day or two.
I just can't seem to stay on track with it! I try to stick to the character I go with, but then I end up injecting too much of myself into it and it ends up being a rant-y journal or something. Also, my laptop is dying, I am luckily if I get half an hour use out of it before it cuts off. I think it has to do with the fan, because it gets really hot. So yea, trying to type a novel really gets annoying when you keep getting shut down!
Anyway, so yea... hopefully I will get to start and finish a Nanowrimo one of these years. in 2006 I was in college still, but someone in a class I was in talked about nanowrimo, so I checked it out, then last Fall I was in my last semester, had a broken ankle--so I really wasn't in a place where I wanted to make an effort to do extra work. Then this year my computer is wacko, and I like to come on mylot when it is working, or getting my badges on pogo. I think it's great that so many people do this, and I really hope I can sincerely put in an effort to start and finish one of these years.

I hear ya on the computer! Mine was on the fritz last year, but I ended up using my husbands and my moms to do all the typing. When I wasn't typing I was writing in a notebook so at least my ideas were getting out of my head. Next year will be your year!!! You can also just try it any other month to see if you can do it. It doesn't have to be November! Good Luck with your computer!

Yep.. I kinda did a character outline in a notebook this year, and I was psyched about my character! But then I kinda lost motivation. I've thought about doing it other times, and hopefully I will at some point!
I'm hoping I will get a new laptop for Christmas, I got this one 2 years ago Christmas... but 2 years for a laptop seems to be my time period before I start having problems with it! I think it's because I use it so much. So anyway, a little over a month and I may be able to be on mylot more again, I miss doing as much as I did this summer. In September our internet was not working, in October I think I tried to get back into mylotting, and I did a little--then my laptop started to really go downhill more and more. It's been a crazy Fall, I guess all the bad things have to happen when money is tight!
Good luck with your writing! Even if you don't get to 50k, I'm sure you'll do great!

I had actually really wanted to participate this year. Unfortunately, like last year, things have been crazy in my life. Especially since this year I'm planning on graduating from college. I just don't have the time to give the effort to the project I can. Of course, I may try anyway over this week (even though I wouldn't reach the 50,000). Even if not, whatever I'd write, I may like it and continue with it. Not for the next NaNoWriMo (obviously due to the rules), but who knows, it may turn out to be my first published novel one day.

That's the spirit. Yeah, so I am not going to make it this year due to the fact I need money more then anything else!!! I am going to continue with mine because I have wanted to write this one for a while now! Good Luck!

I don't think most of the people who participate consider it a contest, with or without bragging rights. For most of them it's a personal challenge. I entered for the third time this year, and quit, for the third time. I'm a non-fiction writer, but I do have a couple of plots in mind that I would like to work out one of these days. But it turned out that I had more important projects this year, that I didn't want to put off for a month, so the novel-writing has to wait until a better time. I enjoy NaNo and I appreciate all the work that goes into it, so I always feel some regret when I decide not to continue. Why knows? Maybe next year will be the year for me. Good luck to you.

So all you gain from participating in the contest is the completion of fifty thousand words?
I have earned several hundred dollars for as many words at one writing site, where I have submitted 130 articles in the past six months.
I have also written around 50,000 words at myLot, and I have been paid more than a hundred dollars, over the months.
If I could write 50,000 words in a single month I would be very happy, because I would earn a nice amount of money for doing it!
I do admire fiction writers who attempt this, but I would rather be rewarded financially for my efforts.

see most aspiring authors start novels, but never finish them. The point is to just write. It is quantity not quality that counts. financially I am not in a position to write as I did last year. I am transitioning to stay at home, but it is still fun. The process of writing for the possibility of being published one day is very personally rewarding! Thanks for you comment!

I joined this program last year, and I think it is really cool. But too bad I didn't make it last year and I didn't join the program this month. My friend always follow this program since 3 years ago and she likes it so much, even she never won. I wonder what would we get as the winner?

The satisfaction of a completed work. Sure it needs to be edited but that can come later!
