what gift should I send to him?

my best friend who is also my college roomate is going to be married at the end of the year.when I got married,he didn't send any gift or red pocket to me.Now I am at a loss what gift I should send to him for celebrating his wedding.I have asked him for some routine ,but he said nothing is better than my joining his wedding ceremory.But if I go there with a bare hand ,I will feel ashamed.Could you give me some suggestions about it?

Hi friend,
Well when my friends get married i ask her what gift she would love to receive so that she will be very happy when she recieve it. But if you dont want to ask your friend i would suggest you go to their place and look something that he dont have so that he well use your gift. Dont buy with common gift for wedding for it become useless, go for something that is not very common gift for wedding.

if I am free,I will go to join his wedding ceremory.but I am not sure I will go to.How can I know what he don't have if I can't go?one of ideas hit my head suddenly that is I buy a gift together with another classmate .He is good at selecting gift for friends when we were in college.
