Is it men, or is it just me?

Why is it that my husband fails to think of things we've talked about when the time comes to do something about it. We live in a fairly large house, with some fairly old appliances. We've talked about what we want to get when the time comes to replace the old things.
One thing I am waiting for is our refridgerator to go completely out so I can get a new one. I hate ours, it's a side-by-side and everything that's up against the wall for the freezer part freezes while anything else in there rots. We've had it "fixed" a few times and I've adjusted the temp, nothing works, it's just a horrible machine. I want the kind that has the freezer on the bottom, with 2 doors on the top for the fridge part. So, when it does finally go - or I get tired of it - that's what we're getting.
Another thing we've talked about is our HVAC unit. As some of you know, I've been without my heater for the week. Fortunately we have electric baseboard heaters (since the house is so old) so we're not freezing. It's actually kinda warm in most of the house, but it's really sucking up the electric to do it. Well, the guy got out yesterday to look at our heat pump. It's shot, we need a new one. They tried replacing something but the unit outside is done. If they can find a unit that's compatable with the one outside (which is doubtful since it's pretty old) then it'll only be around $3,000 to fix it. If they can't, then it'll be around $6,000 to fix it. Well, I surely don't have that kinda money lying around, but I think I can find it somewhere... Well, what really got me was that I have been talking to my husband for a couple years now about how we might need 2 units in this house since it's so big and he didn't even talk to the guy about it. Had I known he was talking to the guy on the phone last night I woulda reminded him and had him ask about it. I mean, if it's going to benefit us to have 2 units instead of one, then now's the time to do it. Yeah, it might cost a bit more money (that we don't have) but if we can scrounge it up and end up saving it in the long run on the heat bill, then now's the time to do it. I see no reason to replace what we have just to go cheap, then later down the road have to pay twice as much to get it done right.
Why he didn't think to tell they guy that I have no clue. Well, yes I do have a clue... Two clues actually... First, he's trying to pay the least amount of money possible (I totally understand that) and second he's thinking "TODAY, I need heat TODAY" and not "Wholey cow look at this astronomical electric bill!" But next month he'll be thinking about the electric bill and wonder why we didn't check out 2 units...
So is this just a man thing or is it just me???

It is not just you it is a man thing. I have to remind my man of all the things we talked about all the time.
He does not think of the obvious he thinks of what is best now or what he can do now.

Yup - that whole "quick fix" thing. Then later they realize that if they'd have thought it through a little bit, there's a better solution that makes more sense.

Hey reiny~I don't know what it is about men. I think that
they have a problem listening or hearing exactly what we are
saying. Or maybe it is the fact that it just doesn't compute!
Sometimes I can tell my boyfriend things over and over and
it just like I never said it to him. I don't know what it
is. He isn't paying attention or doesn't care what I'm saying.
I don't think it's the same thing with your husband, because
he has to care what your saying, it involves both your money
and a large sum of it! Like you said, he's thinking about
the quickest and cheapest fix and worry about the rest tomorrow!

It sounds so much like a "man thing" to me. I do agree with you about the 2nd unit. If you are going to have to put out money to repair then might as well put a 2nd unit in to help lower bills. I also want a new fridge but so far mine isn't doing anything wrong. I want one with the ice and water in the door. We use a lot of ice around here at my house and our ice maker is on the blink, it leaks water and then we have a big glob of ice. I think my son might go out today and buy a new one and put it in though.
Good luck with getting the 2nd unit to help with the heating and the heating bills.

Thanks! We'll know what's going on this weekend. He's coming over Saturday to give us some options. Hopefully it wont be too painful on the wallet.
