Should credit card companies do background checks to ensure they dont give credit cards to compulsive buyers.Or that is not their responsibility.Do they have a moral responsibility to ensure that suitable persons get these cards. One may ask the question what if they did these checks ,what would they do with such information being that a compulsive shopper would bring in more revenue?

HI No i don't think they should. It is up to the person if they use their card. I don't really see how they can it is up to the person to know their limit ,It would be like following a heavy drinker and make sure no supermarket, off license does not sell them drink. It is an addiction and they should go to the doctors and cancell their cards,I do feel for them it must be horrible to be like that.xx

Hi Ronnyb, that's an interesting question - just like for example, should MacDonalds and all the fast-food chains be responsible for obesity in today's children? Sometime back, I heard of an acquaintance who had been blacklisted by the banks because he couldn't pay his credit card bills. He told us that it wasn't his fault - the bank (issuing the credit card) gave him a $10,000 limit; so it was their fault to allow him access to those funds! Well...... SO when you post a question like that, I really am curious at others' opinions! ! I personally feel that it's my own responsibility to ensure that I spend within my budget.

Cedit companies and morality in the same sentance? Amazing :) It is not these companies jobs to do anything but provide a service. If the person is not wise enough to manage their own funds they should be held responsible thru garnished wages, reposessions, whatever it takes. Credit companies are a business, business' thrive for profit. The more the person messes up the more they owe, so on paper the company is cashing in big off people's irresponsibility. The whole system is flawed if you ask me, but that's capitalism for you.
