Hey, all friends here, i have a problem to ask. Since i was a frenshmen, our teacher told us girls are not very fit for IT field. This isn't deny girls intelligence on IT, but lots factors. my major is Electronical Information Sci-Tech, we have only 5girls in our major while 50 boys. and all the courses are really difficult and abstract. coding is the most thing we do. we have lots courses to learn, like C++,C, Matlab, Linux, data, digital pic procession and etc. and now, all of my female classes decided to give up and turn to other fields. here, in China, i think our normal minds about girls are doing some services and secratries , and others. how do u think about girls in IT field or some like math , architecture? do you think they can do a good job here? thank you for sharing best wishes

I have seen ladies building houses and working at electricity companies where they fix wires and doing installation of electricity at home, now that's sounds like men's jobs but yet women can still work on that Again there is a saying that women cannot lead nation and yet there are some countries where women are prime ministers or presidents And now sounds like your teacher was somehow trying to tell you that there are certain jobs specifically for women which for i think is wrong, especially this days. I think women in IT would perfectly fit and almost all fields

Hi BabyOrchid, I'm surprised your teacher told you that - she is either very conservative or living in the stone ages. There are so many of us nowadays in fields previously dominated by the males - engineering, IT, research, technical sales. And what's so difficult about coding, and programming? It's only a matter of interest and our inclination towards logical thinking. I had my degree in IT; and I enjoyed programming very much. I went into software programming, then system design and analysis - sometimes these require detailed work, which ladies can do better than guys. It's all rubbish about girls good only for secretarial and service work and such....women have progressed very far ahead!

i guess everyone who is interested and willing to do such things are fitted to be one... maybe your teacher has his reasons why he'd said that, but he should have told you and explained to you since you are in that course. I guess, your teacher owes you an explanation... :)

Heya there babyorchid! I've been an IT guy for 7 years(hehe, I've been doing school transfers) and from my experience, there has been so many women who graduated from IT and they got awesome jobs afterwards. Don't worry about being an IT student, you'll be exceptional in your field soon.

You can do what your heart knows you can do. Anyone that tells you otherwise is wrong. If you have the desire and the willingness to work hard enough to succeed you will get there and there can be no one to stop you. Take my sister as an example. here in Canada she has become a correctios officer in our jail system. She beat %90 of the men in the physical tests and %100 of all the applicants in the written tests. gender doesn't mean anything. the hard work and perseverance you put into your goals means everything. Good luck, and when you become an IT worker you go back to your teacher and you show him that he was wrong to ever tell you that.

Hi there Baby Orchid! I am not really sure why your teacher told you that. What I know is that what isn't fit for women to do is to carry computers, especially desktop computers up and down a building. I think that's the only reason why women isn't suitable for fixing computers. But in your case, you're more into softwares so I don't think that there's anything to interfere between you and your future work. Women in the field of computers, architecture and similar ones kicks *ss. They usually beat men especially in concept. So that will clearly be a no. IT is both for men and women.

Oooops, i am very sorry, i wanna adds postive to u...but press the negative by mistake....really so sorry by my carelessness.....heartbroken.... thank you for ur encourgement. we have five girls in our class at first time, and now only two. three of us changed the major. In fact we wanna chang too, but the conditions are not allow... IT is really an interesting and wonderful field, like u said, it's both for boys and girls, my teacher said that to us maybe he judeged from the reality. Here, girls are not popular in hunting a job on IT... but anyway, i will hold on... thank you so much! best wishes

The only thing that I can think women would not be allowed to do would be a priest and hold masses. Women now-a-days are very versatile and can do almost anything that men can do. I really even think that they can hold masses too since its like just a class room setting in a church after all. The professions that were before thought to be just for men can already be handled by women, and even better at times. If you guys really want something, you don't have to listen to how other object to your choice. Go for it~! Prove to them that times have changed. (^_^ )

Hello babyorchid, This is not true. We have a lot of girls here in our country working in the different world of Engineering and IT. They are as good as the men and even better. Like you said girls are more apt to services and secretaries but that is changing. Men and women can now work on each job as long as you like it and you are apt to the challenge. Keep it up and if you love the job and profession then you will be successful on it. Regards.

I personally feel that this is such an insult to women. Gone are the days when women are expected to do just the household chores and look after the needs of children and the male members of the family. And I personally believe that if this is what you're really interested in, you will do all the best that you can to exert your efforts to understand and analyze and successfully pass all your subjects in this Information Technology career; but more importantly learn everything you are taught or everything you have to know in this field. Based on my own observation, there are several female IT graduates who can do the job as superb as their male counterparts. In fact, we used to have a female employee here in the company I'm working with for almost four years now, who is great and does her job specifications quite well. Unfortunately, she has resigned from here and transferred to another prestigious company about a couple of years ago, if my memory serves me right.

thank you so much, Mykmari, well, the reasons why IT company dislike female worker.....my teacher told me..bcz girls are likely to get married in two or three years after they graduate from University, they may ask for a whole-year maternity leave, when she is back, maybe many new tech has becoming popular...u know , IT is really everchange Field...that's a very realistic problem...I think maybe my teacher just show us the problems ,he doesn't do any bad words on girls...thank you for sharing best wishes winter's coming, keep away from cold take care!

That is too bad that the teacher have to tell you that. It is true there are not many IT ladies, but does not mean female intelligence are not comparable to the mens. If you like what you are studying, stick with it and eventually you will find a job. Good luck

hi babyorchid!! im also an IT student.. im a graduating student... i dont think your teacher is right, im from the philippines by the way, and in one class, i think, half are boys and half are girls! its a discrimination for us girls to be treated like that!! so they are saying that boys are more intelligent than us?? girls do better sometimes!! and most of the boys in our class are really not good in class...

(*^_^*) though we only have 5girls here while 50 boys, but top students who get the schoolarship are all girls....i think there are some reasons for my teacher saying that..maybe he didn't meant to discriminate girls' IQ... just telling the truth..while ..now ..they don't matter me anymore...since i've done my decision ... thank you for sharing best wishes winter's coming keep urself warm...

i consider them as any other female and i do respect them. dont know how much a girl can shine in programming field. it defenitely requires some talent to keep the pace with the demands. u need to be good in ur logics. u wil be made to work til exhausted. but attractive salary make people from other fields to get into this field

that teacher wasn' being very helpful instead of encouraging more young girls to do IT he/ she was discouraging ya'll that aint nice. as far as i see if you think u can handle IT go ahead and put your best foot forward cause in todays' world everyone should be encouraged to do IT. the world is steady becoming very computerised and sooner or later we might be computeruised.lol. if u get mt drift. well in my country there are more girls doing IT and architecture than boys. so if u wanna come here and study you're most welcome lol. and get it the boys are the ones actually studying the more feminine courses and they encourage us to study the IT . so i hope that this helped and i believe that girls should study those subjects .bye

Hello there! If you think you can do it, dont give up! Go for it, and make your success a slap on your professor's face! He shouldnt be talking that way, to discourage ladies/women on taking up that course... Nobody should underestimate anybody.... Who knows? the one you were looking down, may be the greatest of them all someday.. Dont be discouraged, but be challenged and inspired instead!

Hi, babyorchid~~since I'm Chinese too, so I can understand you completely, yeeh, many people around us think that in those fields like math, physics, and IT and so on, they are not fit for the girls. All I want to say is that that's not a discriminition, almost all the best ones in those fields all men,and this is reality. But if you really interest in it, justkeep on , and do it, you will enjoy yourself ,so I admire you and best wishes for you~~

I don't thin there is a gender superiority in the IT industry. i don't have firsthand experience but I have friends who are girls who are being paid a lot by big companies. It will depend on which company you go to. I guess if you live in China then you really won't find a job there because the Chinese are biased when it comes to girls. So try to work with foreign multinational companies. They are more fair and do not judge one's competency by gender at all.
