How can you tell if a guy's gay or not?

What could be telltale signs that a guy is gay, given that he still hasn't come out of his closet?
I know this guy in high school who was quite the ladies' man. He is fair-skinned, good looking, very charming, and smart. He was easily one of the campus crushes then. The only thing effeminate about him was his tone of voice, which was kind of high-pitched and whiny. Since he was an all-around Adonis everyone overlooked this trait on him, even the guys.
However, I heard just recently a really shocking news about him. He was out partying in this trendy club usually frequented by gays. I said to my friend who told me about it (who is proudly gay) that he might just be mistaken, that maybe Mr Campus Crush was just there because he lost a bet or somthing. But no, he was dead sure it was our little friend from high school, as 'Adonis' cheerily waved to my friend in greeting while gyrating his entire bod on his partner (who we soon found out was his boyfriend!)
We weren't close, him and I, in high school even if we were classmates but even close friends of his didn't expect him to turn out that way. I don't know if he was already gay in high school then and was just pretending to be macho and all that, or maybe his turning point was college. We just didn't see it coming.
Do you know guys whom you thought was 100% straight but then turned out to be totally gay? How can you tell if a guy's gay or not?

If I find a guy attractive chances are he is bi or gay. LOL in all seriousness though there is really no way to tell unless he verbally says "I like guys" or "I'm gay." Other than that I don't think you would be able to tell at all. I mean, some guys really dress nice.
Then there is the issue where he may not be gay but he just may not find me attractive. Confusing world we live in really.

Yeah, I guess that is so. Unless he 'fesses up it would be impossible to tell. Some guys put so much effort into their looks, how they care for their skin, how they dress up and all that but still claim to be straight, not that it's bad of anything. It's good actually that not all straight guys are slobs. I'm rambling off again! lol

Even guys don't really know if the guy is really gay or not, it's actually in his actions. There are those who are just feminine but deep inside they're guys. So, that's actually tough to deal with.
I know of a friend who, for some reason, would always fall to men who she didn't know were gay. She even fell for those guys who I knew were gays back when we were highschool. It was funny. Then when I told her about that guy, that's the only time she'd see that he's gay. It's really funny.
Anyhow, maybe it's through time and constant togetherness that shows you if a person is gay or not. Not to mention that some gays didn't know they were gay until some time later. I could also remember a friend who disclosed he was a gay after college, I almost laughed when I told him that I knew he was gay way back in college! And he was really shocked, because he told me honestly that till that moment, he thought he was a guy!
So, there you go, if they can't know for sure, if other men can't know for sure, it sure would be difficult for us girls to know as well.

I know! It's really hard to tell. I also have this friend from college who used her sister's very glossy, very sassy, and very red little handbag! He used it once during exams. I asked him why and he, laughing hysterically, answered me he just felt like doing it. He's also good at gayspeak. To those who are not familiar with his sense of humor, it would look totally genuine! But he's not gay or anything. Well, not that any of his friends know of! lol Maybe he's hiding something... hmmm... =)
