my advice to you on becomming a better writer is to write, write, write! and also if you are close to a public library, check out their writing section and read books on writing as well as check out the net on tips for writers, these all will help you in your quest.

Write, write and write some more! I agree with jambi462 with carrying around a notebook where every you go. I carry several in addition to index cards and at least one pen. I've even emailed documents that I'm working on so that if I had a spare moment at work, I could write there. (Not suggested unless you have a very cool boss.) The key thing is to write things down and try your best to turn off your internal editor. What you might think is awful now, might become a gem down the road. Also, read. Read what you love and read anything else you can get your hands on. I find myself reading books (mostly) that I really don't like but want to finish because I want to see how the author finished it up. Read outside your preferred genres too.
