Why Some Mylot Users Have High Star Ratings

United States

I know that I'm still very new here to Mylot. But from what I can see, I can easily tell why some users have high star ratings. They are just NICE PEOPLE! I have already had a couple of people leave great comments on two of my posts. They did not have to do that. They are already rated highly by their peers. While other posts I have commented on said nothing. Perhaps they have so many posts they haven't seen mine yet. But receiving responses to my post really made me feel good! Since they did comment on my posts, I feel compelled to rate their responses highly- out of courtesy. They were nice to me, and the only humane thing for me to do is to be nice to them. Am I close to being correct on this subject, or completely way off base?

The rating system is mainly for how well the post is done not that the person posted but because it's so openly done you can use the rating system however you want. I rate by how well a question is answered or if they post a topic that is worth my time basically, I may seem like a bad person, but hey I'm still working for the money I get on here, other people should too, if I get a very short post that doesn't answer my question, I'll rate down, if I get something vague when I asked for a little detail I won't rate them. I think that's how it should be because then others know how well those people post. But I guarentee that people are really nice and rate anyone up :)

I don't think you're a bad person for having rating standards. I think almost everyone who joins Mylot is looking for some extra cash (myself included!). Thanks for explaining the rating system to me. It really had me stumped these past couple of days. :)

Yes that is correct in stating how well the post is done and responding to. Having many good responses and keeping the discussion going with so many links and worthy comments give the discussion the quality it deserves and MyLot rewards us for this. Have a great time here at MyLot from Deeeky

I try to respond to everybody who responds to my Discussions. :) But sometimes they get lost and I can't find them again! If I respond to an interesting Discussion, I try to go back there every so often to see if anybody has responded to my response. *LOL* :) It can be nice to have a nice back-and-forth exchange on one Discussion for a while, instead of constantly trying to find new Discussion to respond to, to the point that you lose track of everything that you have commented on in the past day. *LOL* It can be nice to just stay inside of one Discussion going back and forth for a while. :) I also feel good when I get responses to my discussions, and comments on my responses! :) I also rate highly when people are nice to me. :) I agree that it is human courtesy. :) I like the way that you think. :)

I can't wait until I get to the point that I have so many discussions that I can't find them! I also enjoy the back and forth exchanges. I feel like it's more of an actual discussion as opposed to a random posting. Thanks again EAStanly!

Well Yes and No! perhaps you are little naivete about the star system. have you noticed, it takes a couple of months to get a 10, and then seemingly without reason you bounce back to a 7. This happened to me and I am almost certain it was because I tell it as I see it. The people who have maintained their 10 star, are those who never, never, ruffle a feather. Do you think this is good for myLot? I don't, and thats why I am so proud of my 7 star. I wouldn't trade my reputation as an honest myLoter for all the Stars in the Universe!

Heya barehugs. I am seeing more and more comments these days about "10 stars" never ruffling feathers or speaking their minds. I can appreciate that it can be a common theme for many, but certainly not for all of us mate! I am just myself and if this means I have a high rating then so be it! If you were to check many highly rated people and see their activities, you will find that there is a diverse cross section of topics they respond to. It's a sort of inference that we are all sheep and follow each other around or something but I really don't think this is always the case at all. Your comment about being proud of your 7 star is spot on and I am sure that your pride will follow you up or down wherever your star may go because your pride is associated with yourself and not your star at all. All we can ever be is ourselves.

Ohhh! I didn't notice HOW user stars go from 10 to 7. It never occurred to me that people would rate you negatively because you don't agree with them. But I guess people will be people! It's great that you post your true honest opinion- regardless of what other people may think. That's a rarity these days!

Well i think we get high stars based on what we post and how others rate us on mylot. After you pass your 100post then you will be given a star also. The number on your star says alot about a you. I'm glad that you think we myloters are nice. Keep posting songbird and best of luck.

hello friend, i think the high star rating just depends on how many people leave you the positive feedback or how many positive feedbacks you leave for the others.there are several star reputation level on mylot.and different star color decide different levels. And now, you are just 10 star on mylot, i think you will get a colorful star when you reach the 100 points in the future posting.just keep moving and leave more positive feedbacks to others. i think you will get a high star rating too.lol good luck

Thanks! So far I love talking to new people, so I may get to 100 sooner than I originally expected. I've been on for an hour tonight and I can't seem to get off! Anyway, getting my star is one thing, but graduating to smiley's like you have, now that's a whole other level of Mylotting! Thanks for your comment!

It is the quality of the responses and the positive markings and the Best responses they get the fellow mylotters that are responsible for the star ratings. And it is the knack of being non controversial that sustains the ratings forever.

I have been here for quite some time now songbird and as far as I am concerned, a positive rating will be given by me for every single response I get where an effort has been made. They don't have to agree with me, or say something nice to me just to get my plus rating as it all comes down to them making the effort and me rewarding them for it in return! I can only recall two occasions that I ever rated someone negatively and one was because they left a referral link as an answer; and the second one was because they were completely off-topic and offensive with only a couple of words as a response! Many people that have 10 stars are not necessarily "nice" all the time at all and again, it all comes down to the fact that they DO make an effort as you have seen yourself! It does seem so far that you have taken to mylot like a duck to water so I hope your enthusiasm continues! There are great people here and you will make some wonderful friends. Just always be yourself, make the effort and have fun!

The star rating is called reputation. it depends on how the users are rated by other mylotters here. it is calculated in sacle of 100 and star depends on that rating. you will get one when you reach 100 post.

I think those users post quality discussions on mylot. They are very friendly to other people and help them with their doubts.I rate discussions if i find the response is good and answered correctly.I have never rated anyone negative.

I often forget to rate the responses and I think that its wonderful that you are so conscientious of rating system. It's people like you that make the system reliable. Many people just use the rating system as a way to boost up their friends, and some even use it to hurt people who have differing opinions. I'm really glad you have had a nice welcoming from the mylot community. I've had that same experience. Those nice comments turn into a type of friendship eventually, so keep coming and posting, you wont regret it. Welcome to mylot!
