Do you bring along your children? I or my family usually get to travel by land because of my husbands work. He goes all around the country non stop to check on this chain of drugstores...the biggest drugstore company in my country. My husband represents another company that supplies the medicines and toiletries so he needs to look and check by himself even if he have assistants who are stationary on one province. I am on a long term leave now from my job so I get to go with him more often while the kids are in school. Anyway, our longest drive is 18 hours towards north luzon. Our final destination was supposed to be the Banaue Rice Terrace. Ancient rice terraces hand molded by our ifugao ancestors on mountain sides. The kids were with us during this time because it was a school sembreak. Unfortunately, when we made it to Banaue..it was so foggy and drizzling at 1pm. The people in the hotel said,we cant go to the view deck as it was so foggy that we might fall.We were informed that the weather will be the same for three days more. So we decided to get contented with the very faint view we had from the hotel. We proceeded to Isabella, Cagayan Valley, which was 5 more hours away making the trip 18 hours.Plus back home...we took another route,a shorter route to drop by the province of pangasinan. I told everyone that we will just come back in the summer.=My kids' response?=No way!Even if we get paid coming...no way again!...LOL,they didnt complain much when they were younger...hehe. How about your children?do you bring them to long trips?

My longest trip took me two days and 8 hours. it was from georgia to POregon. I rode the bus and it was the worst. i was cramped in a seat . all day and night. The only trip i took with my three boys and my hubby was about 15 years ago when they were young. We went from Oregon to Oklahoma. My husband drove and it took us three days because of course we had a lot of stops. To eat, to go to the bathroom and to sleep. The boys were pretty good along the way so it wasnt all that bad.

Traveling is my top hobby and so that is the reason I travel. The longest distance I have traveled was around the world and my route was London-Los Angeles-Hawaii-Fiji- Sydney-Adelaide-Cairns-Darwin-Singapore-London. I was away on that trip for just over one year. I went on another long trip of a few months and my route was London-Los Angeles-French Polynesia-Cook Islands-Auckland-Christchurch-Samoa-Los Angeles-London. The longest flights in one go that I have one were Singapore to London and London to Hong Kong, both were 14 hours. My teenage son doesn't like traveling and would rather stay with my mum that go on a trip. I take my toddler son and he is developing a love for travel. So far I took him to Portugal in 2007 and to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in 2008. I am trying to decide where we will go in 2009, perhaps Cape Town.

Just to add I traveled for 36 hours by train from Cairns to Brisbane. I have traveled for whole days on buses and done a few overnight trips on them as well as well. It wasn't comfortable sitting up all night from Trieste to Dubrovnik, from the coast to Istanbul and from Vilnius to Tallinn. By train I have slept in comfortable compartments from Mombasa to Nairobi and from Stockholm to Narvik.

I hope that you will go off traveling to many places when you retire and that you will be good health then. I have booked myself and my son on a flight from London to Cape Town. It will be summer there.
