http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081121/ap_on_re_us/safe_haven Nebraska lawmakers have approved adding a 30-day age limit to a safe-haven law that resulted in 35 children — including teenagers as old as 17 — being abandoned at state hospitals. Nebraska will join 13 other states with a 30-day age cap. It has been the only state with a safe-haven law that that lacks an age limit. What do you feel about this revised law? Will it help children? It puts a control on the situation but if the parents are resenting the child, where can they turn? I hate to see children on the streets or abused, neglect? I wish I was a millionaire and can take all the children in and feed, care and love them....

I think 30 days may be too short of an amount of time IMO. Though teens have been known to put their infants in the trash as fast as they are born. Somehow I think the safe haven law was started with good intentions but will never prevent someone from abandoning thier child in an unsafe place KWIM? What needs to happen as far as the teenagers go is that they need to be able to come to their parents with their pregnancy and not shun or abandon or abuse the teen for their situation. But give them the support they deserve and w/o that support is why they hide their pg's and feel they have to abandon their lo's in the first place. Sad.

I agree with you. 30 days is not enough time. I still don’t know how come some can have babies without their parents knowing. But if they did get parent, they should be able to get proper care, help and support. I think 1 year is the term. I mean, many families want to adopt and some teens think they can handle a baby. Then the baby becomes troublesome after a while. Others want to try and hang in there longer, for example 3 months. Then after three months, they decided they don’t want a baby anymore. So what will happen to baby who is not wanted anymore, and still a baby at 3 months?
