Many words are used for the same item. I am going to name a few feel add to my list and tell me what you call it!?
Vacuum / sweeper - I call it a vacuum
Soad / pop - I call it soda
Rubber band / Gum band - I call it a rubber band
Ya'll / Yin's - I say ya'll
Bath / shower - When say "taking a bath" I mean I am in a tub going to soak in the water. When I say "taking a shower" I mean I am standing with the water falling down. I have heard many people say taking a bath but meaning a shower.
What are some other things you can think of?? Words or phrases used differently in different places?

I have a vacuum cleaner. I wash with soap in my bath. I say bath like it has an 'r' in the middle. I have a duvet on my bed but that is a doona in Australia. I wear my swimming costume in England and my bathers in Australia. I wear trousers and Americans wear pants. I wear sunglasses in England and sunnies in Australia. I go in a lift in England and in an elevator in America. I am fascinated by language.

Soda and Pop - you mentioned these already. We have lived all over the country and it seems every move, the stuff is called one or the other and I was usually calling it the other way for the place we were living.
I remember living where there was a strong German or Amish influence and it was "shut the lights", not "turn off the lights".
How about spatula? The hamburger "turner"/"flipper" is called a spatula so much. Linguistics or just don't know any better?
Or how about traffic terms - a u turn called a "u - e"? A Hollywood stop, a California stop - numerous others.
"Dinner" or "supper"? have "a" breakfast, have breakfast.
