We have gas heat in our house and it was only like $12 but now since we've been using it it's went up to $48. My husband asked me last night if we were to just buy a few eletric heaters and use those most of the time would it be cheaper than running the furnace all the time. We would still run it at night but use the heaters during the day. Does anyone know which is cheaper? How can you even tell which one would be?

Although they may be a little cheaper, depending on where you live, it also depends on whether you can close off certain areas of your house so that they don't have to heat as much. Also if you have small children you run a bigger chance of fires.

Wel lwe have no gas in the area where i live. Some people have oil, they have a tank in the garden. We have coal burner in the kitchen which heats the downstairs and heats the water. The coal is actually cheaper than the oil by a long way. We have electric heaters in the bedrooms but not turning them on as the heat gors upstairs if you leave the doors open and the children have extra blankets on the beds to keep them warm.

I have a gas bill every quarter and have a pay at the post office with a key before using it sort of electricity. Both costs have done up considerably. I would look into solar heating because as is expensive and electricity is a bit cheaper than the gas. I suggest buying an electric heater to try out in the room you use most. You could look at a comparison site on the Internet to compare prices of electricity. Then you could join the one with the lowest cost to provide your home with electricity. Good luck.
