I have seen many mylotters do not use boldface, italics, or underlines in their discussions, responses, or any of their posts. Is there a specific reason for this? Is it because you are lazy? Do you not know how to do this? What is your reason for using or not using 'effects' on your writing?

I don't use these features much at all really and to be honest, it was only a few months ago that I even bothered to work out HOW! lol. These days, the bold wording effects are very rarely used by me but I do use the italics every now and then though. I don't think I have ever used underline before at all so I guess to set a new occasion here I will use it for the first time NOW!

I am glad that you found out though. I too just recently found out how to use them even though I had passed 200 posts a long time ago. I also use these features very rarely, especially underlining. Thanks for your very funny response.

Hello snam23, Well as to me, I am not fun of using them and I don't think it is essential or really needed here. What is important here is for us to share our opinion, thoughts, or advices. For me, those are only used for emphasis, to some for showing their emotions with regards to the topic, and to others to caught attention of other myolotters. But even without, if the topic is interesting, that would be enough to caught attention of others. Sometimes, those just look unorganized, instead of reading the whole comments, our eyes tend to focus on the bold letters, or italic one. That is why, I prefer to have it simple. But I admit I also used it on rare case, so I can say, it also depends on the mood of the person. Happy Mylotting.

I also agree with you and think that it is not really necessary here, but I do like the fact that myLot offers the options. I agree if the topic is not interesting enough to catch people's attentions without emphasizes on the font, then it is not a very good discussion. Thanks for sharing your opinions!

I think it is that they do no know what they are used for. For instance, the title of movies, do you put them in quotations, italics, or underline them? Usually you use italics, but when one is writing a short story or a novel that one sends out one underlines it. Also boldface, it is used for emphasis, but is it a substitute for shouting? It is also because you are in a hurry. I use them.

That is a good reason not to use them. They are usually used for the purposes you named and also for emphasis. I usually boldface keywords or phrases. I think this catches people's attentions if they do not read through the entire discussion or try to skim through it.

Is it really necessary to use all those features? You only use them when you have something to emphasize in your discussion or in your response not to over use it just because you like to use it. There are actually guidelines in using them but that is not part of myLot's guidelines. I only use them when there's something that I need to emphasize and so it will catch the attention of the readers when there are ideas that I need to point out.

I do not think it is absolutely necessary. I understand that there are specific times to use them. It is just that I have never seen people use them. Maybe once or twice. I also try not to overuse it and only use it when necessary. Thank you for explaining when to use them.

people use effects like that to get attention. I will only use those effects if i'm quoting someone, and don't want people to mix my words with their words.

I also use these words to get people's attention, especially when starting a new post so people do not skip over important information or keywords. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions with us.
