What is the key to a good discussion?

On myLot I see there are many people who regularly post popular discussions, and a much larger group who regularly post discussions with few or no responses. I'm wondering if any of the more experienced members have advice on how to start a conversation on myLot that will interest and engage people.

I usually use my personal experience that day and that discussion went out pretty well. I tried general issues but since every one wants to discuss about them, I ended up having nil discussion. And also before I log in to mylot, I'll check out world news or local news for something interesting in case I want to post new discussion. Hapy mylotting.
