Hi I´m wondering about which is the most popular between Med school and dentistry. In my opinion dentistry is by far the most prestigious of the two, correct me if I´m wrong. And I think that dentists make more money than doctors in general.

Hi adamantix, You can't say which is prestigious, depending upon the money which they earn.If the money only matters you than you can opt for dentistry.in my opinion general medical education is prestigious than dentistry because most of the people suffer from other disease than dental problems. Suppose, imagine if you are suffering from any heart disease and at the same time you are having dental problem,I ask you,to which problem do you give first attention.naturally it is heart disease right. And in general we give more respect to a general medical doctor than a dentist. So,in this regard i consider general medicine is more prestigious!!!!!

Hi! I think the choice between dentistry and medicine as a course and later on as a career depends on the country where you will practice, and of course, the demand. I think you regarded dentistry as more lucrative because the amount of money you will spend to finish the course is much less (and the number of years is less, too) compared to when you pursue medicine to completion. Here in the States, physicians, lawyers and some businessmen (e.g. bankers and stock market brokers) are the highest-paid. There are so many dentists, and dental hygienists can even earn as much as a dentist could get. In my country, though, doctors would have a longer time to even out their expenses from medical schooling. The job is not so lucrative. My sister, when she was still a physician in the Philippines (my country), had to get moonlighting jobs to earn more. Same with dentists, unless you have private practice and has lots of money to start with. I was even getting more than my sister's earnings when I was teaching in the International School! I suggest you make some research in your country in terms of demand and how much each profession is getting so that you can make a wise decision. Good luck and happy myLotting!

I think they are about equal - depending on the specialty - I think dentists have much better hours!

When picking a career, you have to decide where your interests lie and what you would enjoy doing for the rest of your life. Dentists are mouth specialists. They are usually in private practice and enjoy a nice lifestyle. Training time is less, as dentists don't have a mandatory residency. Physicians practice in many different specialties and settings. You definitely have more choices. If you are interested, many oral surgeons enter combined MD/DMD programs. You can check those out too!

I don't have any hard numbers, but i'm almost sure Doctors would make more than Dentitsts (well, maybe Psychicians, but definately a Specialist or Surgeon) and is the more prestigious of the two. Also i think it takes longer to graduate though. Would depend on which one you enjoy. Both are high-paying jobs and taker a lot of hard work, so you can't go wrong with either option.
