Today my boyfriend broke his ankle. It was not a clean break and they might have to do surgery and put metal pins in. He has broken his wrist before but never his ankle. I have never broken a bone. I am looking for ways to make these next few weeks easier on him, his parents, and myself..... Any suggestions?

Well he rather go to surgery and put metal fixation, then he would rather stay put and immobilized his ankle for a while when he gain his weight bear he rather uses a crutches for a while, just stay with him and give all your support or for awhile be his caregiver, this condition would not take long and he will be back soon in normal walking condition.

Thanks for the response. He is getting more independent each day. I can't wait until he can go to the bathroom by himself though. That will be great... for him as well. His mom and I are his primary care givers and we have to help him to the potty, Wipe his butt, since he can't stand up, and wipe at the same time, and we have to empty the potty for him. I'll be glad when he can use the normal potty again..... We don't mind doing it, cause we love him very much, but it's sad to see a 25 year old man reduced 3 year old dependency. It saddens me greatly. He has no privacy now.... He don't mind me being in the room and doing this, but his mom.... even though she changed his diapers years ago... he don't want her changing him now... I can completely understand that.

yes, when he is back to his normal condition then you feel some achievements for yourself also that through your support his rehabilitation is doing very well.

Wow, that's GOT to hurt! The best thing you can do for your boyfriend is to find a lot of things to keep him entertained so that he stays off that ankle. Movies, books, online games, PS2, crossword puzzles...anything that he can do sitting down. Good luck to all of you and I hope he recovers soon.

Thanks for the response. I just hope he heals fairly quickly.... He's in a really bad mood right now and I'm not sure how long that I can deal with it. I just keep telling myself... it's because he's in pain. It's been a bad day...I feel sorry for him....I know he's in pain... I wish that I could take away the pain....
