There was lot of discussions comparing Dhoni with Gilchrist and trying to see who is better. So, I thought its good to look at their statistics rather than just discuss based on instincts. Here is the statistics I got: One-day internationals: Gilchrist' batting: 8363 runs from 247 matches at an average of 36.20 and strike rate of 96.32. He also scored 14 hundreds so far. Dhoni's batting: 1596 runs from 55 matches at an average of 44.33 and strike rate of 98.51. He has scored 2 centuries. Gilchrist' wicket keeping: 360 catches/ 46 stumpings. That is about 1.64 dismissals per match. Dhoni's wicket keeping: 52 catches/ 10 stumpings. That is just about 1.13 dismissals per match. So, looking at the statistics, Gilchrist has played nearly 5 times more matches than Dhoni. He has also scored more than 5 times the runs scored by Dhoni. Dhoni has a better average and strike rate. But, can he maintain this when he is playing his 250th match. Nobody knows. Wicket-keeping wise, certainly Gilchrist is well above Dhoni. Test matches: Gilchrist' batting: 5124 runs from 85 matches at an average of 48.80 and strike rate of 81.59. He also scored 16 hundreds so far. Dhoni's batting: 602 runs from 13 matches at an average of 31.68 and strike rate of 72.88. He has scored 1 century. Gilchrist' wicket keeping: 320 catches/ 35 stumpings. That is about 4.18 dismissals per match. Dhoni's wicket keeping: 38 catches/ 9 stumpings. That is about 3.62 dismissals per match. It is clear that Gilchrist is far ahead of Dhoni in test matches. Dhoni is a talented youngster, in his very early days. Let us give him some time to emerge big on the scene. One or two good knocks are not sufficient. We need more from him for a long time! Until then, enjoy Dhoni's sixes and support him to become a STAR.

Thats a good matching done. But there is one thing that must be kept in mind. An Indian player cant be compared with an Australian player simply because the Aussies are always performing. Indians on the other hand perform well during the initial time when they arrive in the team and once they get the fame and money, they began to underperform. You can see that declining graph if you analyse the life of every Indian player with a critical mind.

Agreed. But, same with Gilchrist too. He has also played many match-winning knocks for Australia.
