WEll my dad has always refused to go to the eye Dr since he has lived with me. I did make him go once when his eyesight got terrible. He had cataracts and had them removed. But his eyesight is lousy yet he still refuses to wear his glasses or go for another exam. He won't even wear reading glasses. He uses a magnifying glass to see when he reads a lot. He doesw need glasses but alas..... So he just uses the magnifying glass for small print etc. Do you have someone in your family that refuses absolutely to go see any Dr at all no matter what ails them? I have to force him to the ER when he gets really ill even. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I hate going to the doctor. I am nervous about what he will say. Yes I went, and I found I had borderline diabetes and since my father-in-law was a diabetic got the "don't eat that, if you have one slice of bread that means no more pasta, etc." from my husband so you can see that I really did not want to hear a lecture, oh and my husband is a saboteur. He will buy stuff I cannot eat, like those Halloween candies. I have to do to get my eyes checked, but I do have reading glasses and sometimes I need them and sometimes I do not.

some people just hate doctors, I need new glasses I think but I hardly wear them myself, I can't see well with them on for nearness so I will use a magnifying glass myself, but for far away I will use my glasses, they are supposed to be bifocals but I can't stand them.

I also hate to go to the doctor. I was having to go every three months to keep check on my lungs and to get prescriptions for inhaler refills but that doctor moved out of town. I will go to my family doctor and have him check on me and give me my prescriptions and he is so much closer to my house. As for glasses, I do need to go and get my eyes examed and get new glasses. They keep making print smaller and smaller and even with my glasses sometimes I have to use a magnifying glass. hahaha How does your dad do his cross word puzzles? That would be hard for me to look at the puzzle, hold the glass and write down my word.

You have asthma as well? I suffer from bronchial asthma myself and have 2 different inhalers. Fuinny thing is our copay for exams is just $3 and copay for glasses is just $25. Yet my wife did not ewant to spend any on her to get her eyes checked out again. And let me tell you her eyesight is worse than mine was when I just went to get mine checked. AFter the Holidays I a MAKING her go dang it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I think I have always had a touch of asthma but after going to the ER almost two years ago with double penumonia and the doctor found out I was a smoker he right away attached the COPD title on me. I was never given any tests to see about my lung function. I have spiriva in the morning to inhale and asmanex in the evening to inhale. It is costly since I don't have insurance and that is one reason I hate going to the doctor. After my trip to the ER and my stay in ICU and then in a regular room all total for almost two weeks is when I give up smoking.

Me, I am like that I will not go to the doctor unless it is absolutely necessary. I just think that I know myself when I really need to see a doctor and when I do not, I am the same with the kids too I will only take them when all my own remedies have failed and that is not very often!

My wife reads too many "health" books. She is constantly trying to get me to try things she has read about. She won't try them but wants me to try them? I think not. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Ahhh sounds stubborn like my husband. I can't get him to a doctor at all in the 20 years we been together he has only been two times. He is supposed to wear glasses also he has a pair but he got them before we were together and never wears them they are strong and he is always squinting to see things and saying he can't see to read certain print but he does get his glasses and use them. Stubborn I say..

I am that way but only with a dentist. Always hated dentists so that's why my teeth rotted out and fell out at such an early age. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That sounds like my father. He was raised to just 'suck it up and get over it', but instead of being wiser now that he is his own man, with his own life, he stubbornly refuses to see the doctor until he is "almost on his last leg." I remember him moaning and groaning several years ago before I moved out. Finally, at 1am he let my mom take him to the emergency room. Turns out the man had pancreatitis! Which can kill a person. He got lucky that time.

my dad was horrendous, and my brother's even worse. he's walking around with a nasty abcess in his mouth as we speak from a tooth. i've tried to explain blood poisoning to him,but it falls on deaf ears.

Sounds like our fathers have something in common. My dad has to be SERIOUSLY ill before he will consider even thinking of making an appointment. He is currently in denial of his emphysema. Talk about hard headed.

Yeah, it seems like its the older generation thats like that, they won't go to the doctor for nothing. I had a grandpa that was like that, the only way we could get him to go was to lie to him, and I hated doing that, we'd tell him we're going to the store or something, and he'd get in the car. I also have a great aunt, she's 83, that needs to have cataract surgery but she don't want to go, she complains because she can't see too good, but if you mention going to the doctor she won't hear of it...lol. I don't know why they are that way....Have a good day

I guess he has some kind of fear of doctors or hospitals. Like he doesnt like going under the scissors and dont like blood and all. Some people have this kind of mental block that they dont care even if its hurting them or their daily life. So try to pursuade him to do some medical check up by any trick.

Yes, I have a husband who will not go to the doctor for anything. He does not like anyone to go to the doctors either. That is why I have not gotten an eye exam in awhile. I know my eye sare getting worse as I have had to increase the text on my computer screen.

Your Dad reminds me of my Dad. My Dad had myopia and was almost as blind as a bat. But he managed life without glasses! How did he manage? Nobody knows. He even edited a paper. Amazing! I guess it is one of life's miracles for which there is no explanation. :) Cheers and happy mylotting

Yes, my father. I think we have the same dilemma here. Mine just got an operation last September. If only he had gone to the Dr. earlier, the Dr. might have saved his optic nerve from damage. He used to say that doctors, diagnoses us with ailments we do not have just to earn money. Now, his left eye is already damaged, he is having difficulty seeing with it. Now, he realized his mistake of not agreeing with me to have his regular check-up. Do all old folks get to be stubborn? So, i think that when it is our time, will we also be stubborn?
