Any ideas on how to ease plantar fasciitis pain?

I have plantar fasciitis - a painful condition of the feet. Basically it involves inflammation caused by excessive wear to the plantar fascia that supports the arch of the foot. You know you have it when you get up in the morning, step on the floor to start walking, & pain shoots through your feet (specifically the heel of your foot). I've tried stretching, resting & icing. Heat makes it worse. I take Tylenol enough because of fibromyalgia pain & that may help the pain a bit but not much. I walk my dog every day & I know that walking isn't the best exercise for someone with this condition. I need some really good, expensive shoes - anyone out there have some shoe recommendations? Any other ideas for how to deal with the pain would be appreciated. I'm at the point where I may even resort to a doctor visit. I know they give cortisone injections but I really, really don't want to resort to that. A neighbor had surgery for this - I don't even want to go there! Anyone have experience with this condition?
