Medical expets say that talking to one's self is a normal thing to do. it becomes abnormal only when one become too preoccupied with it that it may result to psychosis, neurosis, or any other mentally-related disease. When I have problems with somebody, take for instance with my husband, I talk to myself first or practice what I will say to him. In this way, it helps me to restrain from verbally attacking the person and consquently avoid further trouble. have you tried talking to yourself?

Talking to yourself can be a good thing. In many areas of life it is advised to plan out talking to someone before you actually have a conversation with them if it is of importance. The problem is if you start answering yourself back! ;-) DCMerkle

I do talk to myself sometimes... but that doesn't make me crazy... since it is like an ordinary thing especially when i do not have anyone to talk to... or when i just do not want to talk to anyone... and i agree with you... talking to ourself when we are angry surely helps us from verbally saying bad thing to people who is responsible for our anger...

Weird as it may sound, but I have first noticed myself talking with no other than myself when I was still in my college days. When I had to analyze a situation in a particular subject which was one of my major subjects, I'd talk to myself and explain it so that I could convince myself how it was done or how the answer was arrived at. But lately, I've noticed that I did this more often; particularly when my spouse and I quarreled with each other and he goes out of the house for a while, I would talk to myself explaining my side of the matter. Sometimes, it helps to relieve the tension and the anger I felt seem to subside. I also discovered that my mom does this, too. My aunt or her younger sister even told me that she was getting worried with what my mom is doing, which was talking to herself. I don't know if this act or condition is hereditary but on a personal view, I guess this is the effect of being too much preoccupied with a lot of things or problems. If this is indeed turning into a sickness, I do hope that we both will be able to overcome this.

I believe we are still from getting some neurotic disorders. . . hehehe. . When talking to ourselves help us relieve tension, then this is a better way to cope with so much tensions.

Yes everybody do that, though in varying extent. I also do that, but only when I'm alone and have to plan some important work or under tension.

Sometime I will do like that, especially when it is quiet and without one person around, maybe that is because I don't quite like the quiet environment and a sound can make me feel safe and excited. While I don't quite think that it has relationship with psychosis, and it is just a kind of instinctive reaction of mankind.

That moment of silence gives you more time to have a conversation with yourself. Talking to one's self will result to psychosis if it goes beyond the normal talking.

We sometimes cannot control what we say especially when we are in the heat of anger and we only realize that when all else subside. At least when we talk to ourselves first we can control the explosives.
