If one of the commandments are Do not worship any engraven images or anything but me your god then isn't it wrong when people worship statues, crosses, mary, etc. what do you think?

well, what does this mean? all of the people who worship figures and crosses and all those things are contradicting what has been writen, thats one of the biggest flaws of the Catholic church. the bible also says that ¨there is no-one holy but me¨ speaking of God. but look all this people coming up with saints and all if they for once read the bible they would know

Ha Ha Ha You hit the nail on the head that is exactly what I am talking about. I have an open mine I don't care what religion you are just as long as you have god in your heart it makes life easier I feel. I was baptized luthern, My father was baptist,I am catholic now for 21 years but I have questions.

Christians need not burden themselves with what religious organisations they belong, they just need to get to know The true God for themselves. The Lord says we are to "Seek him and we shall find him, Knock and it shall be opened unto you, Ask and it shall be given unto you" These are the only way we are going to know the true God for ourselves.Remember, when God comes again and we are being judged, not our parents, pastor, children, friends, husband, guru or even our choir books will be there with us, it is just you and God on that day.

I believe that they do this because they are not actually worshipping the physical thing, but what it represents. A cross by itself doesn't mean anything, but when you know the story of Christ and the crucifiction then that gives meaning to the symbol. People use statues and crosses because they remind them of what their religion is all about.

i think some people just need a concept of something to worship. But you are totally right, we should worship God himself and not images that reminds us of God. but saying that, as humans, i guess we can't really fully grasp the concept of who God is, therefore we use symbols (such as the cross etc) to give us a clearer picture.

The repetitive use of the cross, Jesus in icons etc, within most christian churches of all denominations is a prefect example of graven images I would have thought. After all they all represent something about which there is no evidenced certainty.

I interpret that is an image other than those mentioned here. If you remember, when Moses and the Jews were on their trek, the jews were worshiping a golden Idol, that did not represent God, but more, it seems, their love of material things such as gold and wealth.

I do believe it is wrong to worship any graven images, because the Lord our God says so. I believe because the lord is a jealous God he does not want anyone or anything to be placed as precedence over him.Think of it , if you were God would you like someone to be worshiping anyone else but you?Would you like to be put in the second or third place slot to be worshipped. Remember, he is the great I am, the God in every facet or our lives, He is in the air we breathe, the food we are provided with, the job we have, even our husbands and children, they were provided by God for us, so whom should we worship? GOD OF COURSE.

Some denominations of Christianity forbid symbols. But most people believe that you're still worshiping Jesus. Though, that last one, praying to Mary, that's entirely different. Usually only Catholics pray to Mary, but most Christians don't believe that Mary was divine at all. Is that helpful? ~Jesus loves you and I do too!~
