some background noise? My nephews need a radio playing in the background or cd. Something musical. My daughter appears to be the same way. My hubby will even get her story cds to listen to at bedtime. A little background noise doesn't bother me. As long as it isn't really loud. What about you?

When we lived in the city, there was always some noise, there were street lights on, people going by. We got used to that. Then we moved to the suburbs to a subdivision with no street lights, and it was pitch black and quiet at night. We adjusted to that too. Now I just need darkness. I can handle tv noise and people up, but I like it dark - and cooler temps too.

sleeping soundly - I usually sleep with the radio or music on for a little while, but not too long. If I am wide awake, then the radio or music won't work.

I need a lil time to wind down watching tv but either I turn it off or it needs to be on timer as my subconcious will wake me up by midnight & I will not be a happy girl if the tv is on. My girls need to have that tv or white noise running, some reason it helps keep them asleep. If it's too quiet they run into my bed sooner than later.

I need it to be completely quiet for me to sleep, I'm a light sleeper, and any little noise will wake me up, then its hard for me to go back to sleep. I went on a trip one time with my sister and my mom, and my sister had the clock radio playing all night, it was turned down, I think I even turned it down more, but I could still hear it, and I didn't sleep a wink, I felt miserable all the next day. I hate when theres noises at night, sometimes our neighbors dog barks all night and that drives me nuts..lol.

Have you tried setting the T.V. sleep timer around bedtime. That way you can watch the tube and it will cut itself off. Check your remote you may have it.

I have more trouble trying to sleep with it completely quiet. I have to hear the buzz of the fridge, a fan or rain, before I an drift off to sleep. I can't drift off to sleep with a radio or television on in the background. I feel that it wouldn't give my brain the rest it needed to function properly. My little sister can't fall asleep with her bedtime story and so that means she will probably be one who will need the noise to go to sleep. I feel if we have to do something like that then it should be put on a timer to go off at a certain time, so we would know we are getting the best rest possible. My brother had o have the radio to go to sleep and we had to force him awake in the mornings because his alarm never phased him a bit. And I think that is because it was used to sound so his brain just ignored it.

I prefer to sleep in complete darkness and utter silence. I can fall asleep with the television on, but after a while the light flashing will wake me back up. Music is even worse. Its not how loud it is, the problem is if I leave the tv on the music station, eventually they will play a song that I like, so I will end up listening intently to that, instead of going to sleep. My mom is the exact opposite, she can't sleep unless the television is on. We always have fights about that, because the light bothers me, the absence of light bothers her. I try to turn it down as far as possible, so that mama can hear it, but I don't as much, and eventually I sleep. But the ideal way for me is darkness and silence.

Actually, I need absolute silence. However, there is no peace with human beings around. Since I can't change the world, I found myself forced to change my attitude. Right now, I am trying to sleep to a variety of "civilization" sounds--brats howling, dogs barking, pups whining, TV blaring, two-legged animals screeching on mobile phones, and so on and so forth. Cheers and happy mylotting

Complete quietness. With no noise that disrupts my sleep. I would also like to have a soft light sound that radiates a soothing sound.. It will help in me getting the proper rest that I may need.

I sometimes stuff cotton balls in my ears to get the quiet I need to drift off. Once I've been asleep, it doesn't really matter anymore.

It doesn't matter to me, really. I can sleep with pure silence or blaring music. I can even sleep with the light on. It really just depends on whether or not I am tired before I lay down. Sometimes I have temporary insomnia, and others I could sleep for two days if left alone. A better question is, "How do I prefer to sleep?" I like to sleep without lights in the room and without noise. The most noise that I generally have in my room during the night comes from the ceiling fan, which has become background noise so I hardly notice it anyway.

Well, it depends on how tired I am. I normally am very tired when I go to bed, so I fall asleep quickly and easily as long as it's reasonable. But if I'm not sleepy, I would prefer silence so I can hear my thoughts, and my thinking will put me to sleep as I start to lose track of what I'm thinking about. Background noise or music is good if I have too much on my mind, though, it helps me lose concentration.

I started using a somewhat noisy fan back when I was working night shift. The sound of it running covered up the everyday sounds of the rest of the family. I had tried to use a radio but found myself listening to whatever was on it. I like the 'white' noise in the background and continue to use it even now.

I have a fan running in my room all the time. If it is not on at night I have trouble falling asleep. It sometimes shuts off because it has a thermostat on it that turns if off when the room gets below a certain temperature. I normally get up and turn it back on.

I need something like white noise, not music or anything that will keep my mind engaged. I leave a fan running in my room all the time, all year long. If it's too quiet it just feels awkward.

I prefer when it's completely silent. Though if there's a little noise, then that's fine. I have an easier time falling asleep and sleeping when it's very quiet.

Hi ersmommy! It has to be quiet and dark for me to fall asleep and to have a good sleep. I tried once to put music in the background and it wasn't loud, but it didn't work for me unfortunately. Thanks!

i need it to be completely quiet for me to be able to sleep. In fact, a lot of times i need to wear ear plugs when i sleep in order to block out the little noises that keep me awake. my husband on the other hand, needs some noise to help him sleep. he wears earphones and listens to the radio to fall asleep. he would love for their to be a TV in the bedroom to fall asleep to but i also need it completely dark to sleep and the flickering lights from the TV keep me awake.
