How do you pass time on a long journey ?

Today I was on journey that seemed forever and contemplating how I was going to pass my time .I looked around the bus just to see if anyone was as bored as I was.One guy on the back seat had his head turned up to roof of bus ,mouth open and he was drooling ,I am sure he was in R.E.M sleep.The lady beside was using one hand to push his head which was resting on her shoulder ocassionally and the other was over her basket of food I suspect.Another lady in big spectacles was reading her romance novel all unconcerned.The gentleman beside me was listening to his music on his Ipod.Some persons were enagaged in an animated conversation.A few persons were looking outside staring at nothing in specific ,no doubt eager to get to their destination.
Are these things ,things you would do if you were on a long journey ?

On a long journey on a bus, I usually do what you do: observe the people around me. Then I love watching out of the window and take in the scenery: the people, the houses, the plants, the animals, the terrain. Boredom is not a problem with me when on a long ride, I usually just sleep when this comes. I find bus rides not conducive to reading.

When I am on a long journey I'm driving. Somebody asked me one time whether I would rather sit on an aisle or window seat on a bus. She was trying to get a group together to go on a charter tour. I told her I didn't mind going on the bus as long as they would let me drive.
Realistically though, I know what you're asking. I carry a book with me every where I go. I hate waiting. You know, at train crossings or in traffic or doctors offices, ect. So I come prepared with a good book to keep me from realizing that I am having to wait.

I listen to music, bring along an electronic game system or even a good old word search book. The last long journey was a 5 1/2 hour buss ride and I slept alot and listening to music help block out sounds around me.
