I would love to awake early...but can't. Know any tips to wake up early?

I have been trying to awake early for nearly twenty years now. By early, I mean somewhere around half past five in the morning. You get a lot of things done in the early morning. Moreover, there is something beautiful about the early morning. Nature looks fresh and beautiful. I would love to see the sun rising. I would enjoy listening to the tunes of the birds. Taking an early morning walk is great fun. There aren't many people around, and you can breathe in the sparkling morning air. A lovely time to waste in bed!! In spite of knowing all this, I find my early morning sleep to be sweeter. How can I wake up early? Cheers and happy mylotting

A trick I was told about when I was a child was before I went to sleep, tap my head the number of times that I wanted to wake up. For instance, to wake up at 6, tap my head 6 times, 5, tap if 5 times. All I can say is that it worked, I woke up early without an alarm clock. Like you, I find the early morning the best time of day. I no longer have to tap my head, I expect to wake up around 6 a.m. and I do.. :-)

Oh wow!! How funny! Do you really mean it? I have tears of mirth rolling down my cheeks! Sure, I will tap my head tonight. Only hope I won't collapse laughing. Thanks a lot for making me smile. :)

I had the same problem for most of my life. There are great suggestions posted. Make sure that you get to bed early. For me that time is no later than 11pm. I set two alarms, one that's right next to me and one that is across the room. Think back to when you were a child and do you remember Christmas morning? My guess is that you were like all children, probably up by 4:00 in the morning! That's what finally worked for me. If you have something that is so exciting to you that you can't wait for morning to get here, you'll wake up. For me, it's sitting in my back yard with a mug of coffee and watching the world wake up. I love that time with myself and with nature. I hope that you find something that makes you as excited. Good luck

Sorry, I can't give you any tips on waking up early. All I can say is to set your alarm clock and make yourself get up. I hate getting up early. I especially hate getting up so early when it's cold outside. I like to stay in the bed where it is warm. I guess I like to waste that lovely time by sleeping in. LOL

I am always bang on target, never miss it.. But the thing is Sun always plays truant in its duties.. In Some months it rises as early as 5.15 or 5.30 Am and in some months it comes out when the clock is about to strike six, in the morn. But Venkat is unshakable of his Poise... never get out of bed.. before 7.15 AM. Take care friend.

Right from my school days i heve been an early riser waking up before dawn so with me getting up early has never been a problem. My body clock has got adapted to it so even if i want to get up late i can`t because i get up naturally. the best thing is to put on the alarm clock. If you don`t want to do that then there is another method.Suppose you want to get up at 6.00am.When you go to bed visualize the wall clock showing the time at 12.00 midnight. Then mentally turn the hands of the clock to 12.30, then 1.00, then 1.30 and so on, ie every half hour till you reach 6.00 am.In the beginning you will not be successful but after a few days you will see that you will be waking up around six `o clock. This will give you a lot of confidence and as you start to wake up at the time you wanted to your natural body clock or biorythmic clock will start functioning naturally and then you won`y have any problem waking up early. Try this method sincerely.Once you are successful you can get up at any time you want.

Bed is lovely and early mornings are hard but I find that if I have a plan for the day ahead and the only way I am going to get through it is to set that clock earlier then so be it. If you feel positive about the things you want to achieve then it is possible to get yourself into a new routine. Go to bed earlier so you don't feel too tired and when your alarm clock goes off smile and remember how you feel when you are having your early morning walk or getting these chores done. Have you tried these alarm clocks that give a gradual natural daylight so it doesn't feel like you are getting up in the middle of the night?

Alarm clocks that give natural daylight? Wow!! That sounds like magic. But, I guess they aren't available in India. :) Cheers and thanks for the response.

I can relate to trying to do something for twenty years! The only thing I can think of is to go to bed way early (even if you have to take a melatonin a few nights to do so) until you establish a new habit of getting up early.. I like getting up early too.. while everything is quiet and there's no demands on my time right away..

I'm very much a night owl as well. I've been trying all my life to get up early and I can never manage it. At best I drag myself out of bed and drink copious quantities of coffee to even be functional.

I wish that I could give you some advice on waking up early. I am not good at waking up early, at least not now. I would love to be able to wake up early also. It would make the day seem a lot longer. Which would be nice, since it gets darker earlier now.

I wished I could help you there, but I'm not a early riser either, I hate having to get up early, the earliest I get up in the mornings is around 8:30 am, thats about the time my husband leaves for work, I get up when he leaves. I agree you can get alot more done in the morning hours, and nature is just waking up, you hear the birds in the springtime, and the sun is rising, I love that time of day too, but I love my sleep, and I need my sleep. I don't have any tips on waking up early, set your alarm clock I guess, but me I would just hit the snooze button....lol. have a good day

Hello positiveminded1977, well you haven't mentioned it, but I presume that you are a night owl like myself. In fact my mother and some of my best friends are also night birds. My attitude is that it does no harm to sleep later, so long as you get enough sunlight during other times in the week. I worry more about the people who don't get enough sleep... If you are out of work or work from home, then it can be harder to get out of bed. One thing helped me when I was working from home and that was when I started to sell books over the internet. I was forced to get up each morning, pack the books and get them off to the post office. If you have something like this that you have to do (another example would probably be to take the dog out for a walk), then it becomes a pleasure to get up early and if you really want you can get up early and take a midday nap, which is actually a healthy thing to do. Keeping yourself busy and positive is the secret - I think! Have a good weekend. Umart

I read your post about three times. It seems that you prefer sleeping in the wee hours over getting out of bed early. Until you find SOMETHING that really excites your enthusiasm more than that, your sleep ins will continue. I know you have listed all these logical reasons to wake early, yet as long as you find the sleep to be sweeter, well, just enjoy sleeping in! It's not really a HOW question. It's a WHAT question. What would be so totally opposite of early morning sleep that you would find yourself want to leap out of bed in the early morning?

Are you going to bed too late to get up in the morning? I've always been a night person, but when I can get up early enough in the morning that I don't feel groggy, sleepy, or tired, it tickles me because I have more me time. I love to stay up late, and I even prefer to get my full 7 1/2 hours of sleep, but that extra time in the morning is very special.

Hello my dear positiveminded1977 Ji, I am not that smart, but my hubby has full control and he wakes up, whenever he feels like. he has some of his set-rules from his child-hood, by making himself clean before going to bed, he goes to bed in time, washes his face/hand/feet, after lying down, memorises whole day's past programme and the next day. Recites some religious verses and remembers in his mond 'what time to get-up'. He always gets up 5 mts plus or minus. You may try out, but you must have faith in it. Any one, who can complete all nature;s call before sun-rises, will have whole day free at one's disposal, besides many benifits of getting up early. May god bless yo and have a great time.

everyone already said what I was going to say. But best advice: If you get into the routine of exercising in the mornings, eventually you will have a ton of energy to get up every morning.

Firstly, try to have a regular daily schedule for your work and rest and to ensure everything related to work is finished before the standard time you set to go to bed. Secondly, if one alarming clock is not enough to wake you up, why not prepare one more or two more and set them to ring every two or three minutes?

Probably the most obvious one is go to bed earlier. that may not help ;) I agree with the first answer, placing your alarm clock further away so you have to get out of bed to turn it off really works. also i notice getting active straight away works. don`t stay in bed and stretch but get up stretch (if you want to) and go do something straight away, even if it`s only sitting down for breakfast or coffee. That really helps me wake up adn helps my brain get active for the day and my eyes less tired.
