Tetherball - Boy's or Girl's Game

When I was growing up - tetherball was always considered a "girl's game" asnd I enjoyed spending many recesses punching the yellow ball around the pole. Now, I am a substitute teacher and a mom of 6 boys, and I have noticed that only boys play tetherball during recess. My husband said when he went to school it was the same - only boys played. So what do you think? Is it a boy's game or a girl's game?
